styler Posted July 21, 2005 Report Posted July 21, 2005 a day at a few different wreckers and not too much luck... was looking for a ke25 sized diff, which is 1320mm mounting face to mounting face corona mkII - too wide 14??mm r31 skyline - too wide 14??mm hiace - too wide 13??mm L300 - too wide 14??mm chrysler lancer - 1320mm! 120y - couldnt find one but is meant to be close 13???? commodore - too wide datsuns - some possibilities, will check out a few soon escort - 1340mm, little bit too wide ke30 - 1370mm, too wide ta22 - 1370mm, too wide volvo - too wide scorpion - too wide hilux old - 1370mm, too wide some vans - 1370, 1370+ too wide so not too many cars that would have suitable width diffs  oh well looks like a shortening job then$$$ Quote
kangaroosa Posted July 21, 2005 Report Posted July 21, 2005 (edited) styler said: datsuns - some possibilities, will check out a few soon I'd be researching more into the Datsuns - However, its also very common for Datto owners to install Corolla diffs into their cars. So it might be worth asking a few Datto owners why they change their diffs to Corolla items, (strength reasons or ratio reasons)? demuire Posted July 21, 2005 Report Posted July 21, 2005 Very common for Datsun1200 owners to put KE3x or KE5x diffs into their cars, mostly for strength reasons. The original Datsun1200 diff is rather small... Quote
demuire Posted July 21, 2005 Report Posted July 21, 2005 For some reason (maybe because the Datto1200 is very light?) Corolla diffs seems to stand up to a lot of abuse when installed in Datsun1200's. I now know of 3 Datto1200 race cars with locked Corolla diffs, all pushing a fair bit more power than my KE35, and I've only ever heard of one of them breaking one axle (in the 2 or 3 years it's been running). And this is in a car that was pushing like 140+hp atw... Quote
Redwarf Posted July 21, 2005 Report Posted July 21, 2005 The 1200 is Harry Dolings car. Trust me, he's very kind to the thing, and I understand that is not his first one. Quote
demuire Posted July 21, 2005 Report Posted July 21, 2005 And what a car it is! I love the thing :jamie: Quote
ROLLN'03 Posted July 22, 2005 Report Posted July 22, 2005 Get a Commodore LSD up ya...... Id love to help, but my lsd was professionaly build and installed before i had the terror of a beast, so i donthave much info... but the skyline and commo lsd's are the same..... You should be right with the standard one for now anyway, How much POWER did you say you had??? :jamie: Quote
Rolla__Boy Posted July 22, 2005 Report Posted July 22, 2005 My friend with a Dastun 1200 coupe with 180hp@wheels FJ in it ran a locked galant diff the whole time he had it on the road....He said he had no problems with it. My other friend's rolla with the 202 in it has a locked KE30 diff and it has lasted a fair while now including a drift day...It broke it's first axle a couple of weeks ago, and let's just say...this diff IS NOT being looked after haha. This thing gets dropped from stupid revs in 3rd and 4th gear into instant donuts...almost everyday Quote
ROLLN'03 Posted July 22, 2005 Report Posted July 22, 2005 I don't have a problem with a weak diff, just a weak engine! :abuse: But not for Long! :jamie: Quote
PMP020 Posted July 23, 2005 Report Posted July 23, 2005 how much power you goin to have flowin through this thing? in my old ke20 i hada locked banjo diff with a worked 4k and it was strong as fuk. 2nd gear ringys aslong as i wanted every wkend and it just took it. in my ke20 with 250 iv got shortened and locked borg warner out of XE and its bullet proof. some food for thought cheers scott Quote
ScottKE1X Posted July 23, 2005 Report Posted July 23, 2005 i'm very proud of this: i managed to convince my mate to put a ke70 diff into his mk1 ford escort! he's locked it up and treats it like crap, running a worked 2ltr through it. its beter for lots of reasons such as: better ratios (best escort ratio thats affordable is like 3.7 or something) bigger drums panhard rod swaybar mounts wider track but still fits in guards 114.3 PCD better handbrake setup. they are good diffs really, be good to have one in my ke11. scott. oh what a nissan feeling! Posted July 24, 2005 Report Posted July 24, 2005 a mazda b1800 ute diff is very close to the right length. i have one in the for sale section. the reason why people run all these other small diffs with no problems is because they are locked. a properly locked centre eliminates the star gears and pin. this is the weakest link in any diff. it is very hard to break the remaining bits without excessive torque (or abuse). :D Quote
ke70panelvan Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 will a ke36 4.556 ratio diff bolt up to a ke70? Quote
Felix Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 only if you fit the center in a jap ke70 diff housing. Quote
ke70panelvan Posted August 16, 2005 Report Posted August 16, 2005 so the centre is a straight bolt in Quote
