ca18ae71 Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 hi guys i was getting my car ready too sell , i just added a 40doce Weber and a few other things, so my problem is i went to start her and it sounded weird and began to flood its self cut a long story short the timing chain pulley that attaches to the cam was lose and sheared the 10mm neck off the end of the cam and snapped the key way , my quire is while the car was running for a few short seconds will it have done damage to the valves and push-rods or anything else Quote
Evan G Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 i demand pics! to check for bent valves, put a small amount of kero in the intake port, remove spark plug and check for any liquid in there. maybe cover the port with your hand and put some air pressure in there for a more obvious results Quote
ca18ae71 Posted March 1, 2010 Author Report Posted March 1, 2010 and will the cam be fixable where the key way is cracked out now , i don't want to bin it its a big cam Quote

Evan G Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 correct! hey i gave you some info how to check for bent valves :blinks: Quote
ca18ae71 Posted March 1, 2010 Author Report Posted March 1, 2010 lol cheers man , are 4k's a interference motor like ca's and what not or are they like 4a's Quote
Taz_Rx Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 (edited) They're interference free...... with stock cam lift. :blinks: Sorry to tell you but I think you'll be binning that cam. There's to much force going through that end that even if you could get it welded up then it would most likely just break again. Edited March 1, 2010 by Taz_Rx Quote
ca18ae71 Posted March 2, 2010 Author Report Posted March 2, 2010 noooooo i loved that cam like a child Quote
altezzaclub Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 If you don't know what cam it is you can measure the lift and duration while its in the car and compare it to what the cam grinders offer. It should have some product number stamped on it somewhere though. Cost you $150 to replace it if its cut off a stock cam. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 Just take it to a cam grinder and say "Grind me another one of these please". Can get put a dial on it and read the specs, then duplicate it. Might just cost a little more than buying one of thier off-the-shelf grinds. Quote
philbey Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 yeh mate it's screwed. Fatigue failure, it's always going to be at the keyway, it's the fundamental design flaw with keyways. Sharp Edge = Stress raiser = eventual fail. cheaper, easier and more reliable to get the specs and get another one ground. Quote
ca18ae71 Posted March 3, 2010 Author Report Posted March 3, 2010 thanks for the help guys, I'm going to get another std cam and grind it , cheers phill Quote
