chadd1981 Posted February 28, 2010 Report Posted February 28, 2010 Hey guys, can someone tell me if there are any major difference in the starter motors between 3k, 4k, and 5k and if there are any difference's between the auto and manual?? i know that the 5k ones have got the reduction gears but is there anything else? can you just bolt them straight across between each type of motor?? Taz_Rx Posted February 28, 2010 Report Posted February 28, 2010 Yes mate, they're all interchangable. Only 4kj's and 5kj's came with the reduction starter stock, but you can still buy these from Ashdown Ingrams for around $200-250 depending on what sort of discount they can do you. As for the auto starters, I used a ke30 auto starter in one of my cars once. The solenoid sat on a different angle closer to the motor but its still fitted fine. All K motors have the same outer diametre flywheel or flexplate. Quote

philbey Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 Yeh there's two different locations for the Solenoid but I'm pretty sure the power of the motors are the same. The later ones have a solenoid on top of the starter, much closer to the block, whereas older ones are further out. The newer ones are a bit more compact, handy if you're running extractors. Quote
Andy43 Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 There a few types but all fit. I'd go for a denso as the bosch is bigger and a real bitch to get in or out. Beware we have the solder on the brushes melt when we run at full revs for to long, thats why I like the desno 5 minutes and its out. Andy Quote
