demuire Posted July 19, 2005 Author Report Posted July 19, 2005 an overly rich mixture can cause it to run on? Ah whoops, I meant "overly lean mixture" :D Umm, idle speed screw I've just set to get the car to sort of sound normal when it idles (I have no idea what RPM it is at, no tacho). What do you mean by "just touching the linkage"? The linkage rests on the idle screw, and when I turn it clockwise the idle rises, anticlockwise the idle drops. Idle mixture screw, quite a few. Maybe I should try turning it back a bit to make it a bit richer and see what happens. The car has only been driven 2 or 3 times since the new carby went on, it doesn't run on too badly. Not as badly as it used to with the Aisan carby anyway (but that stopped doing that after awhile). Spark plugs were replaced about 2 or 3 months ago, not sure what condition they are now. Heatrange, not sure, they are the stock plugs. As you can tell, I know nothing about engines :) Quote
cookie Posted July 19, 2005 Report Posted July 19, 2005 There is a whole area to reading sparkplugs that would be an art in istelf to learn, I couldn't find any really good ones on google but one of the OK ones was the NGK website : http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/techinfo/spar...1200&country=US If you learn how to read plugs you can do pretty cool stuff like deduct rich/lean, work out what heat range the plugs are, work out how much timing the engine is running etc. Its pretty cool. I'll leave the carb (mix/idle) tuning to someone else who actually knows what they are talking about. fook that is a good article man that is how I learn to tune my carb DIY style :) Quote

beerhead Posted December 26, 2005 Report Posted December 26, 2005 I'd thought I'd let you all know the cheapest way to get a sports air filter for a Nikki carb. They have a 3 1/8 circular input tube style, so just get a low profile HKS style 3" filter and put a little oil /detergent on the rubber and she'll slot on. I had a full size pod on mine for months rubbing on bonnet :S Quote
