camerondownunder88 Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 Hi, Found this KE1X original radio for sale: But it is in Japan. It is AM not FM and you can see the frequencies on the face plate. Are these the same frequencies as australian radios? If I buy it will it work here? Cheers Cameron Quote
fusion Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 Would an audio store be able to modify the internals so that it works as an FM radio, but with all the original looks? Be awesome if they could . . . Cheers Ross Quote
irokin Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 Its probably AM cam. Easier to write 160 rather than 1600kHz. The frequency range for commercial AM broadcast in Australia is 531kHz to 1602 kHz. Whether the broadcast format is the same as Australia is another thing but I'd be guessing theres a fair chance that it'd work. Quote
parrot Posted February 22, 2010 Report Posted February 22, 2010 The International Telecommunication Union set standards for radio broadcast frequencies, and Japan and Australia are both in the same region. Thus both broadcast AM radio in the medium wave frequency. Sometimes if you are driving in the country at night, you can pickup overseas transmissions, due to a quirk of medium wave signal behaviour So it will work. For FM signals, i believe you need some fancy signal convertor doo dad. Not an issue here however. Quote
Old fella Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 Same radio that was in my KE10 in 1970 and will work ok here. To set the preset stations, pull the black buttons out one at a time, find the station you want and push the button in all the way. Repeat for other stations. I seem to remember that there is a small hole on the bottom front to tune your antenna too. Find a weak station and insert a small blade screwdriver into the hole and turn either way until you have the strongest signal. Job done. Good luck, Old Fella. Quote

The converter is for FM and it's called a band expander, i have one in my van. Quote
TRD ke70 Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 :P You're a funny guy, i was hoping you knew how to tune the antenna for uhf radios. Quote
camerondownunder88 Posted February 24, 2010 Author Report Posted February 24, 2010 Hi, Opppss should have been more precise in my first post..LOL Yes I KNOW it is AM... Mani question was if I had to get an expander thing-o like FM radios I didnt wanna get a dud. Reason I also ask is there are a few different part numbers for KE1X radios. And since radio in KE15 isnt original not good enough. SO I am removing it if I get this and making it look more stock. Cheers Cameron Quote
parrot Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 Yes it will work as an AM radio in Australia. Yes it is different to my KE15 radio but only the face, from behind it is identical. I'm watching it, why haven't you bought it yet? Quote
