anastasios Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 i believe corollas will be worth more as time goes on, look at how much ke70s and ae71s have risen in value, also the ae86 although that is not a true corolla Quote
Toy-Yoda[RL] Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 This may well be feeding a fire, but anastasios; where the hell did you pull that BS from? On topic, whitewalls are a choice, you like them, you put them on your car, you enjoy knowing the car looks how you want it. If you don't like them, you don't put them on your car, you accept that some people will want them, and if you see someone's car with white walls, you STFU, keep any narrow minded opinions to yourself and move on. A persons car is a reflection of their personality and desires, everyone's is different, it's just a shame that not everyone understands this. Quote
rjenman Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 How to stir up a hornets nest i know. white wall tyres were on 50's and early 60's cars so why do people put them on 70's and 80's cars, to me it's the same as putting wooden wheels on a 57 chevy, i can't beleive that when someone posts a story on there say immac original ke55 theres a whole heap of people responding with calls to cut the coils, venitians, mazda 808 hub caps(or some other brand) and white walls, totally taking away from its originality and devalueing it in the process. to me knothing looks sillier than a ke70 with white walls i suggest you do not put white-walls on a ke70, unless you were planning on doing so. i also suggest that you don't put white-walls on any 70's or 80's car, unless you were planning on doing so. rjenman Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 also try not to put wooden wheels on a 57 chevy or anything that is analogous to doing this Quote
rjenman Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 on a more serious note in terms of my opinion, i'm actually more repulsed by "big chrome rims" and "bling" on old cars, but of course it all depends on WHY you're doing it, you might have a car thats built for performance and have mods that aren't as period-perfect but work better. that doesn't apply to whitewalls of course, and again it depends on why you're doing it, some people just like "old school" stuff and aren't pretentious about the period itself, but rather the fact that its retro... different kind of tastes... if you're going to start complaining about other people's poor taste, i'd be more sympathetic if it was about people putting "bling" on a corolla, since its a cheap car. To me, this raises the "idiot" flag, since if they wanted to show off their prowess with shiny objects, they would have been better off showing off the fact that they're saving their money with a sensible car they're not modding, or at least showing off the BMW they could have bought without mods, istead of pimping out a poor old corolla. of course, this all implies that i understand what on earth goes on between the ears of such a person, and i honestly don't. if i really did, i would do the same thing to my car. JiP Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Luigi from Cars thought they added a little something extra to the car. I kinda agree tho wouldn't put them on anything real new. Depending on what they're on they can make a car look classy. Quote
Redwarf Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Hell, I remember the day when I was GIVING away better examples of Corollas than what some people want $500-$1000 for. I can see the bubble bursting shortly, and only the original unmolested ones being worth something. Hell, I bought my 25 for $200 about 20 years ago and the thing is still going. I can see how pople build cars for a style, however most of the time the style is not me. I suppose I'm old school. I just have corolla's to go fast in and to have fun with. But at the end of the day, it doesn't even have to be a Corolla. *sigh* I'm rambling. Quote
mungi mods Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 late 60's and 70's sawthe red wall not white wall, so when is someone going to run red walls as per the era? i think a ke20-25 looks best on 14-15 inch JDM rims with dish and low low profile tyres , but thats just my opinion.. Granny spec has been done to death , individualism is dead....... lets all make our cars look the same............................................................................ ....................... Quote
Redwarf Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 individualism is dead....... We are all individuals! Crowd: Yes! We are all individuals! Maybe not quite dead, but certainally on life support. Quote
mungi mods Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 when i had my 20 the last thing i wanted was hubcaps and venitians , my cars don't appeal to everyone but they are more or less one of a kind.. Quote
Tume Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 late 60's and 70's sawthe red wall not white wall, so when is someone going to run red walls as per the era? I was actually planning on running a thin red wall on my statesman when I get the tyres replaced as they are not really what I'm wanting (235's at front and 245 rears aren't my style). Must say thought twin thin white walls to me look a lot more attractive then a thick single, but its personal choice. Quote
mattress Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 It all comes down to the individual. I myself wouldn't put whitewalls on anything from the late 70's onwards. I'm restoring a KE10 so that's the option i'm going. I hate the flapper style a lot of people run with but i can sort of understand due to nobody making decent tyres in whitewalls. It's a little hard to be individual these days with so many people modding cars and especially hard to be individual with a corolla on a corolla forum... Quote
JiP Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 Oh and a line from Luigi... "Whitewalls say 'Look at me, LOVE me...'" Quote
ancullen Posted February 21, 2010 Report Posted February 21, 2010 f@$k whitewalls. There is only one tyre worth having on any car: Bridgestone Eager. Pity they don't make them any more. ;) Something about chunky 50 or 60 profile tyres with raised white lettering definitely does it for me. Sure they were useless at providing good grip, but damn they smoke up well. :) Quote
