RainWarriorDregs Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 Hey guys, Alec again, I went to change my fuel pump, and when i put the new one on i tightened the nut too much (text book error, i've learnt from my mistake) and i snapped the stud. She's my daily and i need her up and running again! There's about half the stud left, i've tried clamping it and wriggling it around but i don't know if these screw out of the block or if they are welded on. PLEASE HELP!!!! Quote
agius Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 (edited) hey mate don't stress to much.. I'm not 100% sure but I'm prety sure the side that the stud is in the block is screwed in with a thread find a good pliers and turn her out like ur undoing a screw it should get it out. if you can't get it out with the pliers get a stud remover socket it should be an 8 or 10 mm that will 100% get her out. B.L.Z.BUB Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 if pliers don't work wd40 and vice grips. If that doest work and it slips, angle grind the sides off so there are two flat sides and try vice grips again. Quote
Evan G Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 use vice grips or find a greek man with vice grips :hmm: Quote
ke70dave Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 don't destroy the thread with pliers!!! put 2 nuts on the studd. and tighten them against each other. then just use a normal spanner to undo it. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 ^^^ awesome idea. Rolla club kicks ass with this kind of advice. Quote

ke70dave Posted February 19, 2010 Report Posted February 19, 2010 (edited) That's gay, nuts are touching. :hmm: not just touching, they are pushed right up against each other! also. agius: the original poster doesnt say there isnt any thread left....just sais that its snappd in half. if you can get one nut on it, tack weld it on the thread and undo!:y: Edited February 19, 2010 by ke70dave Quote
RainWarriorDregs Posted February 20, 2010 Author Report Posted February 20, 2010 hey guys, thanks for all the replies. Rain yesterday hampered my efforts but i'm back at it today. i'll try out the two nuts idea to get the "new" stud out of my spare engine and i think i'll have to go the vice grips on the snapped stud, i don't think the end is going to allow a nut to slide on. I've got some of that "Freeze and Release" stuff that was a god send when i changed my diff over so i think i'll try that. Not too keen on welding coz there's a lot of petrol around that area haha, could be hazardous. anyway, i'll let you guys know thanks again! Quote
Evan G Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 instead of using a stud use a bolt the same size, Quote
RainWarriorDregs Posted February 20, 2010 Author Report Posted February 20, 2010 So i can't get to the studs on my spare car because of the damn bracket and compressor for the air con! :hmm: i'll remove that then see what happens. i couldn't get the two nut jobbie to work tho, they just spun each other and came off, am i doing something wrong? might have to wait till monday and grab a couple of suitable bolts. Evan G Posted February 20, 2010 Report Posted February 20, 2010 did you have a spanner on both nuts? did you nip them up then undo with the nut closes to the engine Quote
RainWarriorDregs Posted February 20, 2010 Author Report Posted February 20, 2010 nah i didn't have the spaner on both nuts. So i tighten the outside one against the one closest to the block, then i loosen with the one closest to the block? oh yeah, and i think my fuel pump is cactus so if anyone has one that'd be sweet!
