Hi,

I have a 74 ke20 which i hope to run in group Nc as a run on. As the cut off it 72 but they allow models which where first manufactured within the specified dates (before 72.) What i am wondering is what cosmetic differences there is from the early ke20 to the late ke20 and in what year (and month if someone knows the specifics) they changed. It would be of great benifit to me if there was a model the same as my 74 manufatured before the 31st december 1972.

Any help would be great.

Cheers

Andrew

Front gaurds are same apart from indicator hole positions. Bonnets are different, only the stamping patern on top. Early has a wide raised section down middle and a flatter front while late has a thin raised center with a pointed front. Are interchangeable. Grilles and headlight surrounds are different but interchangeable (bracket modification). Biggest difference is rear tail lights and bootlid. Early had narrower but taller tail lights and later had wider but shorter tailights. Major panel work required to change. Other slight differences are MPH speedo, heater controll panel, steel insert in windscreen rubbers instead of plastic and a few mounting brackets under car and engine bay. I think change over period is early 73 but not definate as it was well before I was born! In reality though with the rules you stated it should be ok as they are essentially the same body just minor cosmetic differences.

From what I know, Browland summed it up pretty well.

I've had 2 KE20's and 2 KE25's. The late model bonnet has the 'shark nose' point on it in the middle, like the LJ Toranas so the bonnet is longer in the middle. But the sides of the bonnet from early and late are the same length. So you can interchange early and late bonnets, just might make the grill stick out too far or hide it.

Another thing is that the earlier models had a skinnier b pillar, and so the seat belt top anchor point was placed really high, pretty well on the roof like old datto 1600's. So the belt sort of comes across your cheek....well nearly. Later models had the anchor point on the b pillar.
