ratiara Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 Guys, here`s a bit of a history lesson for you all.Way back when America decided to ban the consumption of all alcohol, a bunch of "rednecks" used to run illicit booze called moonshine, thru the back roads of America at ridiculous speeds. A lot of these drivers were pretty shit hot and decided to have a contest to see who was the best. And so Stock car racing was born. That has carried on to be one of the biggest crowd pleasers in the world.(Indy 500 etc and V8`s in Oz and not to forget speedway) Correct????? Again, in America and all parts of the world where cars were sold, youg hoodlums like you and me used to hot `em up and see who was the fastest. When a whole bunch of people got killed enjoying this passtime, so came the birth of legal Drag Racing at legitimate tracks. Again one of the hugest crowd attractors in the world. Correct????? Rallying, drifting, burnouts, hill climbs, club racing, same same. Correct????? Now I ask the question. Why, when all of these sports have legitimate venues do youg blokes have to show off doing absolutely stupid shit so they can be heroes in front of their equally cranially challenged mates.????? Just take a look at the nightly news guys and see how many people are killed each week, or what is worse, maimed for life. Just wake up guys, ending up a vegie for the rest of your life will not make you a hero in anyone`s eyes. Old Fella. (pissed off with stupid topics like this one) Brilliantly said my man! Sense from experience prevails! Amen brother, amen! Quote

The sad thing old fella is that it will happen this weekend and every weekend after :P . don't think it can't happen to you because it can .One moment of stupit shit and you ll pay with, or for the rest of your life. rob Quote
RedKE30 Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 why not go to a race track? You can't just go down to your local track and drive on it. Quote
philbey Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 Bullshit. You might not be able to pay a toll and drive full pace willy-nearly like the nurburgring, but there's plenty of opportunity to get your car on a track. You're south east side of melbourne, you're probably less than an hours drive from Rob Roy hillclimb track. Failing that, you've got Maffra (dirt) and out the other side there's the Mt Cottrell motorsport track. Motorkhana's and hilllclimbs are run all the time across all states, you go to a motorkhana and you'll see people racing round in their magna they collect the shopping in. And then there's track days, plenty of clubs run them. DECA and similiar places also exist. In all seriousness, how much track time do you people actually need, like a daily does or something. Quote
LukeAE71 Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 In all seriousness, how much track time do you people actually need, like a daily does or something. Tom, they think that their car (and wallet for that matter) can withstand daily use at the track. Probably couldn't be more wrong Fact remains for most normal people, once a month would be pushing it with the amount of funds and car preparation required for each visit :) Quote
snot35 Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 Well that's a fair point. But if you really thrash your car on the road it doesn't fair a whole lot better. And to backup philby, there is definitely practise days that you can take anything to as long as it's safe and road worthy. Last time I checked Malalla was $80 or so for a fang and a day licence. You can get into a basic dirt event for about $50. There's very few excuses. Quote
