From what i can remember the g13a in the sierra uses a smaller bore and longer stroke to get its 1.3litres and while the twin cam head fits there's a few mods needed to make it work, water ports mostly. But if you bore the block out to fit the twin cam pistons you'll get around 1.4litres.

Click the english flag for some Finish K engine and parts prices . They take around 180hp out of their 5k rally starlets .Usually vertical ITBs

Urm, the english flag is way to far away for me to click on !!

At least it'll keep those pesky red-coats from clicking on me :)

You say you don't know why people would spend this amount on a K series motor.

What you don't realise is that there was not anything better around when these engines were developed as a race motor in their day. 4ages didn't exist, the only alternative was a Cosworth BDA but in clubman or formula 3 you couldn't use them. If you were lucky enough to race in a class that could use a Cosworth and you blew it up, you were better off walking in front of a truck.

Most of the K series engines around now are used in historic racing and they have to use them!!

Get the picture?

Yes I do realise that, hence my comment "unless it was of course a requirement for some racing class". I'm talking in the here and now, ie. the noughties, not the 60's-70's.

People are talking like they want one of these motors in their daily driven ke35 or something. Yes a full race 4k will make more power than a stock 4age... Would it be quicker on the street? Not necessarily, the race 4k would be a pig of a thing with bugger all power down low, it would need a close ratio gearset and short diff gears to keep it in its' powerband on gearchanges. Would it be cheaper than a 4age conversion...... No.

Personally I think if you want to build a k series, you are best putting it in a lightweight ke1x. With the later chassis' and their extra weight (plus engine bay size), starting with an engine conversion makes more sense, unless you go forced induction.

Well my 2 cents is that it costs under grand to put together a warm 4k in a ke1x that will go just as hard as a ke3x with a 4age conversion. 6cyl falcadores are easy meat.

I met a guy today who has been active in Historic Formula 3 for the last 15 or more years, and he is running a 3k with 1298cc capacity. estimated 140 hp.

He mentioned he would be happy to help anyone on here with building up a similiar motor, or milder.

He is a Fully qualified mechanic, semi retired now, enjoying life.

If you want more details, feel free to PM me.

nope- $1700 actually, if you include bearings but not rings.

$600 for carbs & extractors, $100 for ram tubes, $170 for cam & followers, $170 for head skim & valves seated, couple hundy for manifold wrap, bearings, gasket set, and the rest in all the little things that need sorting too.

Lets say $2grand will do a 4k nicely, without a rebore.

I started with a 4k in good nick and went from there. Headskim, 3 angle valve job, porting (DIY job), VRS kit, cam regrind, DCD weber, carb kit, filter, adapter plate, Scorcher recurved dizzy, 2nd hand extractors, 1 7/8" exhaust, new clutch, 5 speed, 4.5 diff. All for under a grand. :)
