Jono.C Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 G'day guys (: Just about to purchase a restored ke30 in the next week, i have had several corolla's in the past but ive decided ke30 is what i want to stick with. I am currently thinking of going with a 2S corona motor with a 5 speed manual transmition, I'm not interested in nissan motors or anything for this and i want to stick with a carburettored motor for ease of use :) just wondering what you guys think? the motor when new put out 97hp but this will eventually be turbo or supercharged. What I'm wondering is.. Will the 2s being a 2 litre have any drastic effects on the cars handeling? ill be trying to mount it lower as to keep the centre of gravity and what not.. also I'm presuming the motor will have to sit further forward if i was to use the stock tailshaft? will the stock diff be able to handle the extra 50 odd hp until i upgrade it later on? and lastly do you guys think its worth it? Cheers (: Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 You don't use the stock tailshaft, you get it shortened, getting the engine as close to the firewall as possible is very important for you handling. Any engine that is heavier than the stock one is going to affect your handling, but a compromise can be met. my sr ke30 has heavier steering, and generally feels less nimble with the 2 litre, but still handles fine, if i never drove it with the 1300 in it, the handling would not really even get a mention. Things like longer lower control arms, s13 struts, wrong steering arms will screw your handling soooo much more! Quote
beerhead Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 The factory diff will last a while, nasty clutch dumps and its bound to snap, I'm gonna test one with a gen 2 3SGE, seen many 20V's not break them for ages, I reakon its all about mechanical sympathy/ driving style. The borg warner 5sp gearbox from the ST141 is junk compared with the 2S SA63 W55 toyota box. Now if I did this swap I'd have aspirations of a 3SGE or 3SGTE engine in the future, so will the FWD motors be too close on the firewall if you go for perfect fitment with the 2S? Don't be scared of efi, its nearly a 40 year old technology man !! Quote
