BReNt Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 maybe the clock started working? |blink| Quote
agius Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 my 3K is ticking really bad but is full of oil, anybody have any ideas ?? sounds like the tappets are on there way out.. u can get rid of the noise by filling the car up with thicker oil or buying a bottle of that guey stuff that makes your oil thicker from a car shop ultimately the best solution is to get them replaced its not to muuch of a big job |blink| Quote
ke70dave Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 or just adjust the tappets....? Quote
corollaart Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 (edited) + 1 For tappet adjustment ,timing chain and tensioner,(fairly common on high milers) Leaking exhaust gasket . Check oil pressure with a gauge.Compression test. rob Edited February 6, 2010 by corollaart Quote
andr3w Posted February 6, 2010 Author Report Posted February 6, 2010 ok thanks heaps guys, ill be sure to check it all out, thanks heaps again |blink| Quote
jono1986 Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 A full engine rebuild fixed my ticking sound |blink| and +1 for thicker oil, Castrol have a 25-50w sport edge stuff. Works awesome, even reduced tapet noise on my pajero, and a guy at work swore by it increased oil pressure in his MG Quote
marksKE25 Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 and a guy at work swore by it increased oil pressure in his MG Bahaha MG's cannot hold their oil in their engine's. Increasing the pressure inside just means it will squirt it further outside |blink| Quote
Old fella Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 G`day mate, I woulda reckoned on finding out where the "ticking" is coming from before doing anything. Grab a long screw driver and hold it to your ear and start putting the pointy end onto the head, block and other parts. Acts like a stethoscope if you do it right. If you`ve got long hair......look out for the fan. There are a gozillion things that could make that sort of noise so its hard to diagnose anything without a reasonably specific location. Good luck. Old Fellla. p.s. I just hope for your sake that the furkinator spring hasn`t broken. They`re bloody hard to replace. Quote
BReNt Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 p.s. I just hope for your sake that the furkinator spring hasn`t broken. They`re bloody hard to replace. +1 for that. If the furkinator spring is broken you may as well chuck your whole engine away and get a brand spanker Quote
