i have got the shits with my standard carby, not so much me driving it but I'm sick of my misses up me for it not holding idle. the carb is a piece of shit, so should i a) buy another stock carb from the wreckers. b) put another kit thru the standard carb that was done about 6months ago or c) f@$king chuck that thing as far as i can or tow it behind me on a trip down the coast and find an alternative?

I'm thinking about su's, downdraft weber, solex, dellorto, anything, even injection, i want the car to run well and hold idle, the timing is good, the carby is good just not around idle, ive changed the fuel solenoid twice, but i think the throttle shaft is cactus and its leaking air. what is a solution to my problem??? rollaclub help me

LoL definatly option C :D

I'm thinking of doing the same thing for a weber lol ;)

Edit- also is the carby tuned and timing done? my 3k was doing this when i bought the car.. after a good tune and timing redone it ran nicely

Putting a kit through it isn't the same as getting it properly rebuilt.

It's old, and things wear out.

May also be other factors at play here.

just get another one and try your luck? wreckers near my only charged me 15$ for a 3k carby.

the 3k carby is awesome, hardly any pipes to attach, not a whole lot can go wrong (if its off a running engine).

my understanding is that an "upgraded" carby isnt much use, unless you have the camshaft/compression to eat more air. but those can be had for cheap.

also make sure all other things are good, attack it with carby cleaner, new points, attack the spark plugs with a wire brush, get the timing light out. make sure you eliminate the simple things before you go spending money, unfortunately ive learnt the hard way...to many times.

i have a little cam and extractors, ive used a timing light when warm and the car sits happily at 10-12degrees on PULP with a good idle, but when suddenly braking the car will choke and then stall, hot or cold it seems to idle weirdo, i got a nikki in the shed should i try it on i guess no harm can happn

new and clean, i think the carbys had enough, i will check it in the needle and seat in the morning tho. has anyone had good luck with the nikki? i fitted one up at work on a manifold months ago and its been sitting in the shed, my hold off was reading bout a shorter throttle cable, but ill ziptie it up and see how i go. i was thinking twin sus but f@$k at the end of the day its a fair wack of money that could be spent on a 4age or 7k injected.
