Hello..

 

I think my master cylinder is up the duff. After about 25-30 minutes of driving, the pedal will all of a sudden go quite low to the floor, only getting pressure right near the end of the swing (ie, near the floor).

 

Sound like the M/S?

 

What I want to know is, is there a rebuild kit i can buy or is it better to replace it with a new/second hand one or with some other one that magically bolts straight on? Like a twin circuit from another car, for example.

Could be a leaking wheel cylinder???

 

Or drums alignment??

 

Does the feel come back when you pump the pedal a few times??

 

I am doubting that it is the brake master cylinder at this stage given the symptoms you describe :jamie:

How hard are you driving? Do you have brake booster

 

A problem with any of the master/slave cylinders will be consistent regardless of driving time.

 

If this is the car you've had for ages and haven't touched, I'd start by flushing and replacing brake fluid, it's probably contaminated with water and is getting too hot and possibly boiling. Brake fluid is hydrophilic, as in it attracts water and the properties change with time.

also don't bother with a rebuild kit, the seals can be a right pain to try and put on...

and then its got to be honed and outside cleaned and painted... not worth it at all.

 

the old early galant ones bolt one and are twin circuit, with 3 bore sizes to suit. hard to get hold of

at times but if you can't locate one let me know and i will look it up for you. do a search, the

galant brake master specs are floating around here somewhere...

Yeah it does, but only for another couple of brakings.

It's all downhill in the morning. But not particularly hard. I tend not to use the brakes much anyway.

They'll be easy enough but you'll have to get some new steel brake lines made, that's pretty cheap and easy though. Just use a coathanger to bend out a mockup brake line and take it in to All clutch and brake and theyll bend up the tube for you.

I got one out of my KE25 that I was going to upgrade but havnt found something to replace it with yet...

 

I've got a possibly busted one you could use.

 

 

Oh.. UP grade... ;)

 

 

I'll keep an eye out for you and let you know.. I wouldn't want to leave you without brakes.

Bolt up. Twin circuit. Some replumbing required. As will be required with most twin circuit masters.
