Jono.C Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 Just wondering if there are any toyota twin cam heads that will fit on a 4KC block? i was thinking maybe a 4AFE might be close.. any ideas? Quote
Jono.C Posted February 2, 2010 Author Report Posted February 2, 2010 hang on.. never mind.. i just noticed how dumb that idea was lol Quote
philbey Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 It's been asked before, people postulating whether you can fit 4A series heads onto K engine blocks. Short answer, no. Long answer, anything is possible. If you know anything about Datsun L series motors, you'd probably be interested to learn that OS Giken built a twincam head for the L series. Click and read up I worked a bit with a mate who designed and cast up his own head, for an OHC steam engine. There was lots and lots of design work, he made the pattern for it himself etc. After seeing it done first hand I'd prefer to go through that much effort before I bother trying to crossbreed another head onto a K. Your biggest issue I reckon will be getting a timing drive to it; you'll not only need a new head, but complete new timing covers, water pumps etc and all the problems that go with that. Quote
Jono.C Posted February 2, 2010 Author Report Posted February 2, 2010 yeah.. and i remebered that the cam is in the block and not the head lol Quote
RainWarriorDregs Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 wow that twin cam for the L series is dope as f@$k. 30 000 smackaroos tho Quote
corollaart Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 Has been done ,correct me if I'm wrong 151e built by toyota for racing . Think it was 3k base . Expect to sell your first born to buy one . rob Quote
seabiscuit Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 Replace the whole engine with a 4age. Quote
Jono.C Posted February 2, 2010 Author Report Posted February 2, 2010 na id rather just do up the stock engine.. can't really be bothered swapping motor over.. don't really have the time either.. Quote
Grand Master of Awesome Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 you'll spend alot more time/money on doing up the stock engine rather than a conversion. you should be able to find someone selling all the parts for a 4k>4age conversion only way to be getting good power figures out of a 4k is to turbo anyway. Quote
KEI069 Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 How is conversion going to be cheaper, just buying the engine and gearbox would cost more than a rebuild on a K engine. Plus the fact it'll need engineering for road use. Quote
altezzaclub Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 So far $1600 has done bearings, (mains & bigends) cam cut, twin SUs w ram tubes, airbox/cold air system, head skim & valve cut, & extractors. The only further cost will be to fit a larger exhaust when its all back in, another $150 say. Quote
towe001 Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 yeah.. and i remebered that the cam is in the block and not the head lol The T series motor has the cam in the block. But on the twin cam version the cam is replaced with a lay shaft so that the cam can be moved up to the head with its twin Quote

Bull shit. You can get plenty of poke out of an NA 4k, even a 3k screamer...... which would be enough to beat a stock 4age..... for less money!! :jamie: Unless you're doing a dodgy, half arse conversion. Quote
shauns ke30 Posted February 3, 2010 Report Posted February 3, 2010 The ultimate versions of both the 2TG and 18RG were made by TRD- they were known as the 151E and 152E respectively and came with 16 valve heads, both were available in carburetor (50mm Mikunis) and fuel injection (mechanical Denso) models. There was also a 150E 16-valve version of the 3K / 4K engines. These 16 valve heads were the forerunners of today's 4AG, 3SG, 7MG, and 2JZG engines. These were race only non-production heads, with heavily modified blocks. The 152E race engine was used for US Toyota's early back-to-back victories in desert/stadium racing and IMSA GTU events. The 152E was used in Europe for the FIA World Rally Cup ser hear mate had a look i hope this helps Quote

Not much point wacking a turbo onto the 4k. The money in the long run is ridiculous. Your better of throwing a 4age in it. You wont regret going 4age thats for sure. Quote
