Trev Posted March 16, 2010 Report Posted March 16, 2010 In your avatar the strips look hot, Depends on what you want the car to look like in the long run. Quote
78_7kRolla Posted March 16, 2010 Report Posted March 16, 2010 Solid progress Johno, top stuff >| I think for the strip to stay on the front bar would have to be black (plactic colour) too. As Trev said it looks good in your avatar so up to you. Now get this thing on the road! matt. Quote
Johno Posted March 17, 2010 Author Report Posted March 17, 2010 I agree with both of you, If its black bumpers, keep it on. White bumpers, off it comes. Still thinking about maybe changing it back to the black bumper, maybe I'll keep it looking stock and it can be a sleeper, had lots of comments from random people already asking what's been done to it because they noticed the rear disks. I have just a few small things to do on it now then drop it off for a RWC Test  Quote
Johno Posted March 18, 2010 Author Report Posted March 18, 2010 I went to buy new spark plugs today but i can't get any of the right size, I did find some but they were $25 each but not in stock so i;ll just wait till i do some other work to the motor. I have been driving it around little bit, i forgot how fun corollas are! :) I just wish i could stretch it's legs out a bit more than what i did today  I finished the front grill, Power plus Midnight black, white Toyota logo and for the finishing touch.. A 1989 Toyota Camry badge repainted. I fixed the problem with the bonnet hitting the window wipers, I got a drivers side 1986 Toyota celica wiper arm. It sits flatter than the ae82 one. The passenger side is also flatter but when i turned on, the passenger side hit my newly painted bonnet :D Just ended up putting the ae82 passenger one back on. Its so nice opening the hood and not hearing that horrible crunch/click sound Pics of the grill installed, almost there :) Quote
Trev Posted March 18, 2010 Report Posted March 18, 2010 Looking good John, What is the drama with the plugs? You can use coppers but it is recommended to use the platinum/iridium plug due to the difference in plug resistance. Quote
Johno Posted March 18, 2010 Author Report Posted March 18, 2010 It's all to do with the external size. The plugs that are in the car are 16mm spanner size, the new ones i got are 21mm size and the socket wont fit in the head to let my tighten them up. I took the rolla down to the auto shop and showed the guy my problem, he brought out 3 other types and none fitted, so in the car park i took one off the engine and said i just want another set of these. He looked closely at the plug, typed in the code on the computer and he said they are about $25 each said mine still look really good, just need a clean up with some sandpaper. I'll just wait till i do some serious work to the engine, whenever that it.. ground cams are on cards for the near future :D I can't remember what plugs i have atm, i think they are NGK R or something like that Quote
Trev Posted March 18, 2010 Report Posted March 18, 2010 (edited) NGK - Copper: BCPR5E-11 Platinum: BCPR5EP-11 Iridium: BCPR5EIX-11 Only use coppers as a last resort. EDIT: By the sounds of it you got plugs for a 4A-C. Edited March 18, 2010 by Trev Quote

Johno Posted March 30, 2010 Author Report Posted March 30, 2010 (edited) Little update.. Done a few things but there not finished yet so i wont spoil the suprise until i have pics of them complete. I dropped the car off at the mechanics for a RWC test, early last week, came back tonight with only a few small things to fix.. Oil cooler line leaking, Rear seat belt, Front seat belt, Exhaust flange bolt broken drive shaft seal leaking from gearbox :) windscreen something in the lower control arm loose might be a few others i missed but i have to have all this done by thursday arvo (1.5 days) and still have to work full time so wish me luck guys.. :P Something else is on the way home from the mechanics, my car turned a few heads.. not sure if i really like it.. it can't walk the walk yet Edited March 30, 2010 by Johno Quote
Trev Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 drive shaft seal leaking from gearbox :P Did you pull the shafts out of the box? Quote
Johno Posted March 30, 2010 Author Report Posted March 30, 2010 (edited) Did you pull the shafts out of the box? Nope, just unbolted the 6x 12mm nuts on each side. Its the same box that was in the old seca. Its been sitting outside for 1 year so maybe the seal dried up over time. It was leaking from the moment i bolted it in the car :) My mechanic said its a pretty easy job, just pry the old one out with a screw driver, grease and hammer the new one in in the same position the old one sat in Oh yeah, and thanks for the spark plug numbers. i got a new set of Iridium's to chuck in tomorrow :P Edited March 30, 2010 by Johno Quote

Yeah 30 mins if the shaft comes out from the box easy enough. No prob. Quote
Johno Posted April 15, 2010 Author Report Posted April 15, 2010 (edited) Its been a while since an update so here it is.. (Captain obvious) So i got the RWC, went to vic roads, got it rego'd, put the plates on from the old seca (i like em :) ) Went for a first drive out to emerald, driving along then all of a sudden from the front end.. BANG!!!!! CRUNCH, click.. BANG!!! Stopped the car on the side, got out and saw a trail of little nuts and bolts scattered up the road, Bloody drive shaft went. Got a tow truck, went home, fixed it the next day. I had a really cheap dodgy socket set and couldn't tighten up the bolts cos the bits kept slipping. Bought a new socket set and all god now :) (yes go ahead and laugh) Other than that I installed the DVD touch screen unit from the seca put new carpet in the boot :jamie: Edited April 15, 2010 by Johno Quote
