rolla-king Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 I am unsure which engine to put into my KE55 either a 4AGE 16 valve or RX7 series 5 halfcut. The 4age seems reliable but id have to cut the gearbox tunnel to fit the W55 gearbox and I'm not sure how much power i would get. the rotary would give alot of power but doesnt seem so reliable, but I'm not sure what mods would need to be done. If anyone has done any of these conversions and knows how much power these give and the mods needed could you please let me know? Cheers Leigh Quote

Cheers Leigh Use a T50 instead of the W55 and you won't need to cut/mould the firewall. No need for a W-series on a standard non-boosted 4A. Quote
greenmac80 Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 w series also won't need tunnel mods.. they aren't that much rounder than a t series just longer. depends what you want.. you can get the 4ag legal rather easily but the 13bt? or 13b even is gonna be a lot more of a pain... but you'll get more power and the engine is light too., Quote

greenmac80 Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 yeah they do go hard not overly fast but quick enough to keep most people happy. rev happy and sound good. have a 4agze and it'd be worth it. rotor will go harder tho... a lot harder. Quote

Get a gearbox from an AE71 and you won't need to mod anything. All the info you'll ever need about a 4A-GE. Bill Sherwoods Home Page Rotary = $ Quote
son of stig Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 Go the rotary if you want more power, but expect a lot more screwing around ($$$) to get it in. Go the 4AGE if you want nice controllable fun, with a relatively simple (less $$$) install and continued ease of use. Quote
Beauc Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 Lets put it this way, if you don't know much about rotaries, don't bother. Having owned a Series 4 13b Turbo Rx7, they are very reliable if you treat them right and know what you are doing, Rotaries got a bad name especially in the 90's when workshops were trying to chase big power and big numbers and development wasn't anywhere near what it is today ( 6 second passes in the pac cars ) But as people have said, yes they are expensive on fuel and upkeep, and if you don't know what you are doing with them labour at workshops is expensive. Also, with a rotary conversion you will have to look at rear end setups to use in the ke corolla. You will need a custom tailshaft (around $350) and a diff out of a hilux or something similar and it will need to be cut down, the cheapest way to do this is move your leaf springs inboard and most expensive way is 4 link and tubs etc... That brings us to the 4AGE, they are a quick and mostly hassle free conversion, but you won't get the same power and probably won't have as much fun as the 13b, parts are getting harder to find at wreckers and importers so you will need to look within communities like this and toymods.. I'm doing the conversion at the moment and it's a hell of a lot cheaper than a rotary conversion.. Cheers Quote
rolla-king Posted January 11, 2010 Author Report Posted January 11, 2010 is it possible to fit a 4agze and a AE71 gearbox together? Quote

rolla-king Posted January 12, 2010 Author Report Posted January 12, 2010 So i was talking to a guy I'm buying the engine off and he says: "the gearbox behind the AE71 is a T50. He has that gearbox but with the wrong bellhousing. He only has it to suit a 2TG" I don't know heaps about which transmition and bellhousing will fit into the KE55 so could someone please help me out? Quote
