altezzaclub Posted January 10, 2010 Author Report Posted January 10, 2010 Quote its a ryco That's what I'm using, a Z68. Quote Toyota in Orange don't stock the filter for a 4k engine ...and that's a bit of a worry! Quote
Felix Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 I've used the ryco z9 before. The one I had must have had a faulty drainback valve... would take about 5 secs for the oil light to go out on start up, so didn't last long on the car. Another bad filter I've used is the Valvolive Z68 equivalent, bad oil drainback. I like the Z386's, instant oil pressure. Quote
Kozmo Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 I will never fit a Ryco to my own vehicle. I have never seen any published information on their filtration capabilities. The best filters I know of are Amsoil "Ea" filters (synthetic media - not paper). :jamie: Quote
altezzaclub Posted January 19, 2010 Author Report Posted January 19, 2010 Hmmm... Toyota in Orange want $25 (retail) for a KE70 filter. The Altezza 3S-GE one is only $17! Maybe time to bring a few in from NZ at $14... Just have to convince someone to fill up their hand luggage! Kozmo, where do you buy your Amsoil ones, and what are they worth? Quote

altezzaclub Posted January 19, 2010 Author Report Posted January 19, 2010 I never asked them- Can you look up an '83 Ke70 with a 4K? There should only be one filter for all the 4Ks. Might be interesting... Quote

rob83ke70 Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 z386 is a generic part number. my orders of preference for aftermarket parts are: 1 - nippon max (made by wesfil) 2 - ryco 3 - coopers but sometimes the quality and construction may vary, depending upon what part it is. I do see a lot of filters (oil fuel air and cabin) over the course of a day. Robert. Quote

The Z386 is the Ryco version of the toyota 4AF/G and 3SF/G 5SFE oil filter. Spins straight on to a K series motor. Quote
philbey Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 I swear my local toyota dealership had a 4K one for less than 10 bucks. Sump gasket was 40 bucks though. Quote

Ryco specify the Z68 for K-motors, and that has a different seal diameter to the Z386 so it mightn't be the best idea to mix and match Quote

Cheers Sian Well, I checked with spare parts. There's two different oil filters they recommend for 4k's. First was a monster of a thing. Second was one we use every day, for say 1MZ's and other engines, known to us as a D2. P/N: 90915-YZZD2 My Price: $12.50 - Retail: About $24.00 Cheers Sian Quote

rob83ke70 Posted January 20, 2010 Report Posted January 20, 2010 now that is interesting. the 418 goes in a lot of upside down applications, eg a 1gr-fe and a 1kd-ftv in the latest hiluxes, and they don't seem to have oil pressure issues. It is probably a much better filter than the 68. and I know that it fits on a corolla too, I've seen one fitted mistakenly to a camry with a 2az-fe, which is normally a 432, and I've also seen a 386 fitted mistakenly to a 1az-fe in a rav4. conclusion to come to: 68, 418, 432, 386, 9, and probably a stack of others all will fit a k motor. Next oil change I'm fitting 418's and I will see how they go!! Robert. Quote
