morgzz Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 Hey all. I have cut springs all round on my car but the back ones are king springs for a falcon and the front ones are stock... Now my problem is a real dam bumpy ride. I was thinking of taking out my rear air shocks and replace them with gas shocks. That's my plan for the rear. So now I'm stuck with the front. Is there any possible way to make the front a smoother ride? Cheers Quote
philbey Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 Shocks won't change your ride stiffness. You've got to change springs for that. Shocks damp out the "bounce". You know you see a dumped ksev hit a bump the road and 50 metres down the track its still bouncing up and down? That's what you get when you have underdamped suspension. Quote
altezzaclub Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 That's a perfectly normal ride for a dumped car... Get softer springs, matched shocks and suitable bump stops... or raise it up! I've got cut springs in mine, but its not 'dumped'. The ride is slightly firmer than stock, but the truth is that the shorter the spring, the stiffer the ride. Quote
baggus Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 I got some cut mustang cobra springs in the rear of my ke70 stiff as. And normal cutties up front prety nice ride as it doesn't sit on bumpies Quote
corollaart Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 :S :) :( not another one,It s amazing how many times this comes up . Just buy the rite springs and shocks to start with,if you can't afford to do properly leave it until you can. Before all the ghetto mods say any thing, remember its your ass they will hang out if you hit or kill any one. Then its not such a budget build then . rob Quote
chappo12 Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 if you look at cars like elenor from gone in 60 seconds they don't bounce around but look tuff they hold really well. save your money and get the best. poor man pays twice. there is nothing cool about a pogo stick Quote
morgzz Posted January 6, 2010 Author Report Posted January 6, 2010 Alrighty cheers. Also is it bad for the engine if you have a snapped plug?... Just happend to me and don't wanna walk down the servo Quote
Evan G Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 i put factory ford rear springs in my ke55, chopped 2 springs off and i changed to factory springs the next morning! cut springs are a f@$king joke, you have to guide them in when you lower the car off the jack expect them to pop out and maybe burst a tyre! just buy king springs! 120 from ebay! Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 where are these 120 buck kingies? i take it its just for a pair of falcons? Quote
morgzz Posted January 6, 2010 Author Report Posted January 6, 2010 Well I was lucky enuff to find a near new pair in a falcon at u pull it... And seeing no body got back to me on that reply on driving with 3 spark plugs.. I did it anyway and it sounded beefy az f@$k. Got to the servo and got a new one and still drove the car home with 3 plugs and got awesome looks from the sound Quote
chappo12 Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 what do you mean snapped plug like you snapped the head so its stuck Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 well arnt you just a sick c**t! yes he is! Fully Uleh. :S Cut springs are a joke. They will be too firm initially and the suppleness of the ride is severley compromised. Ive just ditched my cut stock rear springs in favour of some similar rate custom springs with the correctly wound ends that will actually stay in my spring seats if I get a bit loose. Its not an issue till the shit hits the fan. Invest in some stiffer springs that will lower the car correctly. Kings are a good option if you are lazy and just want a lowish daily ride that will still handle ok and take the bumps. They go ok with just GT gas monroes installed. Personally, I think the best option is a little trial and error to see what you like with custom springs. There is a sad tendency for everyone to get caught up in the drift hype since thats whats in fashion. don't buy into it, most people attempt to drift with an underpowered car. They do silly things like find the stiffest springs that will fit in the car and chop them way down, then not invest in some $500 adjustable shocks to control them properly. Or they crack the tyre pressures up to 60 PSI. All these things basically sacrifice the car control you need to do the drifts properly anyhow, and ultimately if you want to get good at it you will go the other way and look for grip and more power. In reality its a difficult task to make cut springs fall out The real problem is how bad the ride is and how much you like to risk the safety of others on the road with your tightarsedness (hey I invented a word :) ). So do some research. Look into whether you would like height adjustability, if you just want to find a nice height to work with its ok to cut them for a day or so to work it out. Then you should go and order some springs to do the job correctly and some good shocks to control them. Stiffer isnt better. It is to a point with a front end, but in the rear its better to be as soft as possible for grip. Quote
morgzz Posted January 6, 2010 Author Report Posted January 6, 2010 Who ever owns a toyota is a sick c**t Any who little red spirit I don't use my car for drifting I just use it as a daily... and mabey some corners hehe... I want springs that sit the car how it sits now but with a smoother ride Quote
morgzz Posted January 6, 2010 Author Report Posted January 6, 2010 what do you mean snapped plug like you snapped the head so its stuck Yeh like the bit where the lead connects to. When I was tightening them Quote
