20VBTSECA Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 I have a really anoying LOUD knocking noise from the front left hand wheel and knocks when you turn to the right. CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK, and you can feel it through the whole car!. Driveshafts are pretty new and I have just replaced the wheel bearing on that side and the boots and re-greased the CV joints. any ideas?? Quote
demuire Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 Have you tried checking your wheelnuts? Else, driveshaft sounds like the culprit. Or diff. Quote
20VBTSECA Posted July 3, 2005 Author Report Posted July 3, 2005 yeah they are tight, weird this is that when you raise the wheel off the ground and drop the car back down, it goes away for a little while. Quote
demuire Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 Could be your shock absorber, check that the top nut that holds the shock in the strut tube is tight. Quote
Nitephyre Posted July 3, 2005 Report Posted July 3, 2005 funny, i've got this exact same noise, FLHS... but i'm pretty sure it's the wheel bearing... just aint got the time/money to get it fixed... and it only seems to do it when it's cold at night, or when i really thrash around (me, thrash? :P Quote
Banjo Posted July 4, 2005 Report Posted July 4, 2005 Had a cracked lower ball joint that gave similar symptoms once ! :P Quote
20VBTSECA Posted July 4, 2005 Author Report Posted July 4, 2005 cracked rim? don't say that I just brought new ones :P Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted July 4, 2005 Report Posted July 4, 2005 had the same prob with my cricket way back when..... the fact that it goes away for a while when you lift it is the clue; my brake rotors were warped, and the lower control arm bushings were totally wasted. also daisy did this until i got the rotors ground, but she's got bad ball joints Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted July 5, 2005 Report Posted July 5, 2005 oh shit!!! had this exact same problem with an opel gt check your inner rim bead and the flat of the inner rim i put some nice modern wheels on the opel, but they were fwd offset, after lowering it off the jack it would be fine for 10 mi or so then start clunking it turned out, the rim was hitting the upper control arm Quote
demuire Posted July 5, 2005 Report Posted July 5, 2005 Yes, but this car is running macpherson strut, so shouldn't have this issue. Well, shouldn't doesn't mean won't... Quote
