jono1986 Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 Hey guys, i recently put some dragway rims on my Ke35 and the first test drive showed that the car needs a wheel alignment. But i've been a bit slack and left it, but its been driving fine, actually alot better than before. But last night i had two other people in the car and the steering wheel (and entire front end) randomly wobbled badly at speeds of a bout 40-50 then i'd stop and it'd be fine, then it would do it randomly again. so i dropped one person off, and it did it less, then dropped the last person off and i was able to drive with no problems, and this was going through 80 zones. Just to let you know the front still has the old springs from the auto to manual conversion on it, so the front sits higher and also i'm running a 4 or 5mm spacer in the front, cause the rim hits the caliper ;) Quote
baggus Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 Wheels been balanced recently? Mine had the shakes to turned out to be two things lose wheel bearings and unbalanced wheels. Quote
jono1986 Posted January 3, 2010 Author Report Posted January 3, 2010 Wheels been balanced recently? Mine had the shakes to turned out to be two things lose wheel bearings and unbalanced wheels. Wheels were balanced in october i'm pretty sure, but like i said it only did it with other people in the car, the steering wheel was moving like 1-2 inches around Quote
silverra23 Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 Dodgy shock that only becomes noticeable when its loaded maybe? Thats just a guess. If its only happening when there is extra load on the car its a weird one.. Quote
luke.t. Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 my ke70 had bad wheel wobble at like 60+...... due to me being slack and not adjusting the wheel bearings... also check the wheels.... may be bent etc etc Quote
greenmac80 Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 check all steering links aka tie rods.... inner tie rods... pitman arm and idler arm.. do this by getting someone to shake the wheels while your looking in the engine bay if there is excessive movement then that part need replacing. Quote
philbey Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 sounds distinctly like a balance issue. Just get them rebalanced. Yes the load (ie more weight) may change it. Quote
Evan G Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 (edited) i know when I'm doing kph cause the same thing happens to me. (no people in car etc), also check the front Tyres for feathering. my got feathering on the outside edge of the tyre, most likely a toe problem. try swapping front tyres to the rear. get your mates and go for a quick drive. if the problem is still there then its not the tyres. for the experts. - car pulls to the slightly to the left. - i swapped the front tyres L to R - then it pulled SUPER HARD to the right? - swapped them back. - found feathering on the outside edge on the LHS tyre?? cheers Evan Edited January 4, 2010 by Evan G Quote
Bamboo Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 You've got me thinking. Wheel bearings don't tend to give pull. guess. tyres are worn giving the pull. not pronounced is usually toe. (tie rod adjustment). rule of thumb. positive camber (inside wear) race car negative camber (outside wear) horse and cart. This is usually obvious. basic toe adjustment usually fixes your probs. HOWEVER.....if you lower your car you usually ask trouble from the next two. Caster? steering heavy? too much camber too light? not enough. these are all the things to consider when determining what is really wrong. Sometimes the tyres are just F$%ked, giving all these probs!!! Quote

I'm thinking caster rods? Quote
TRD ke70 Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 sorry mate your camber is around the wrong way. negative camber will show inside wear on the tire and positive will show outside wear on the tire. excluding toe. Sound like you need a wheel alignment and balance. Quote
philbey Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 I second that. Are you on full lock when you hear that click Evan? Quote
rollake70 Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 wheel bearings are something to check but you can't get away from wheel alignment when you think about it ok- if the wheel alignment is off the faster you go when you have more weight in the car ESPECIALLY A LITTLE CAR its going to be extreme just get the allignment done again with the new wheels and if it dosnt fix itself even see if the tyres are good and on square anyways i agree with and yes i agree it would be the caster rods Quote
jono1986 Posted January 7, 2010 Author Report Posted January 7, 2010 Um....sorry but next time could you start another topic, it's confusing me to who people are answering to....i'm getting a wheel balance and alignment tomorrow afternoon, oh and i can feel a very faint wobble when the suspension moves. As in i go over a bump or something. Another question is when i go over the sewer cover things the car seems to move arouund a bit, like jump to the side or something, should i just replace the shocks and the front springs then see how i go? on a bit of a budget now :lolcry: so yeah Quote
