now I'm sure some one will tell me to do some study but any way

as you know I'm doing the ke55 12a thing and ive talked to taz about suspension

but now its brakes

in alot of magazines they keep saying that your stock brakes arnt that bad if you do them up with the best rotor and pads give them a bleed new fluid and lines.

keen to know if this would be enough for the stock 12a street driven.

like i will prob put bigger brakes in any way.

but wanted to know what people think.

I have the same or similar question floating around in my head although i'm only puttin a 4age into a ke70 i have upgraded the brakes due to simply having bigger rotors and calipers from a commodore layin around that have been custom fitted to ke struts i don't know if that is in the same boat but in this instance would that be better than just putting say slotted rotors and the top brake pads for a 70 into it and hoping for it to work aswell or close to bigger brakes all round. Sorry to steal your thunder mate but i thought since it was there ask

I have the usual Corona Strut, Peugeot Rotors and Landcruiser Calipers on mine. I had the Strut cut down to suit SV21 KYB shocks and had a Pedders coilover kit fitted.

I've also upgraded to a VN V8 1" Master Cylinder which bolts straight up to a KE55 or 30 Booster (you'll have to check which bolt pattern is right).

The stock RX7 brakes from a S1,2,3 are not worth rooting around with. The later model calipers are popular, but thats about all.

If your after simplicity, this is one of the easier proven conversions. Chuck some good pads in there and they pull up like nothing you've owned before.

studs the same ?

like can i keep me wheels

Yes the PCD is the same. You use the Corona hubs which are 4x114.3 as well.

15"s fit fine. I had trouble trying to find 14"s that would fit, when i was troubleshooting my excessive front track.

The only machining will be to the rotor. They just foul on the caliper, so they have to be machined down 2-3mm in diameter which your brake shop can do.

The pads don't contact the entire face of the rotor (they stop a few mm from the outter edge) so there is no problem with them over hanging the outter edge of the rotor.

The holes in the rotors have to be drilled 1mm bigger in diameter so it bolts up to the hub.

You can actually use (S5 RX7 ?) pads in the landcruiser calipers. So that opens a whole world of selection when it comes to pad choice.

As a bare minimum, go with brakes AT LEAST as good as though originally fitted to the car the engine came out of. Then consider what you will need to do if you further modify the engine.

And what the car will be used for.

Like Kangaroosa said the S1/2/3 RX7 brakes are nothing flash. I do think the S4/5 RX7 calipers however are great!! I have a set in the front of my rx4, and yes there is a good selection of pads. I also used the S4/5 discs which were re-drilled to the correct PCD.

What did the coilovers set you back? I have also heard earlyish pajero boosters go into nearly anything i may be mistaken

$550 incl GST. That included cutting down of the struts, supply and fit of the coilover kit and supply and fit of the springs. I think the upper mount had to be modified to suit the larger diam shocker thread??

Thats trade price btw through pedders. Full retail was over $1000
