KESR20 Posted December 24, 2009 Report Posted December 24, 2009 Hey ladys and gentlemen, Sorry if this has been asked before, but I'm in a rush too find out redline on a 4kc in my wagon, a new set of guages are going in in the next hour or so and i just need to know so i can set the tacho  thanks in advance _)flat tyres suck(_)} Quote
kiahn Posted December 24, 2009 Report Posted December 24, 2009 well it depends how long your engine needs to last and how old it is rebuild it and get it all balanced and it will rev out to 8 grand easy from what ive heard stock, you should stop at about 7000 max Quote
Redwarf Posted December 24, 2009 Report Posted December 24, 2009 Find where it valve bounces, and set it a couple of hundred under that. Quote
coln72 Posted December 24, 2009 Report Posted December 24, 2009 more accurate is to rev her till she blows. Rebuild and never go that high again  Seriously 6000ish is all you would want on a stock motor. I'm sure it will rev higher, but all you will be doing is making noise. Quote
camcam Posted December 24, 2009 Report Posted December 24, 2009 more accurate is to rev her till she blows. Rebuild and never go that high again . i like that lmao Quote
TE278U Posted December 24, 2009 Report Posted December 24, 2009 dyno it and find out where you make the most power, then it's pointless going much further... Try modifying you rocker gear to accept motorbike valve springs, and see if you can rev to 12000  Quote
Felix Posted December 25, 2009 Report Posted December 25, 2009 Do some timed runs with a stopwatch on the same piece of road... Change at 5000 and measure say 0-100kays. Try again at 5500, then at 6000. Work out what shift RPM is quickest. Quote
rob83ke70 Posted December 25, 2009 Report Posted December 25, 2009 a stock k motor won't do anything exciting over 6000rpm, all it does is make lots of noise and sound like it will blow up. improved induction/exhaust, different cam profile, elec ignition, balancing, and lightened flywheel, with everything done right you will pull 8000rpm out of it pretty easy... a LOT of work to get it to that stage though. Robert. Quote
SLO-030 Posted December 25, 2009 Report Posted December 25, 2009 Realistically, I'll be building the 4K in the 38 to handle 7,500-8000. Just to tide me over till the next engine combo  Will pretty much match up with what Rob has just said (MSD ign.,Balanced, Better carb(s) or EFI, Extractors and exhaust, 606 cam and slightly lightened flywheel) CHEERS Ryan Quote
