skidsharpe Posted December 20, 2009 Report Posted December 20, 2009 hey all just wondering what the difference is between a 4k head and a 5k head? any info would be appreciated cheers brandon Quote
Redwarf Posted December 20, 2009 Report Posted December 20, 2009 About $1000!! :) *sigh* I crack myself up....... Quote
TWF#14 Posted December 20, 2009 Report Posted December 20, 2009 the 4k head is outa a 4k engine and 5k heads outa a 5k engine :) Quote

Evan G Posted December 20, 2009 Report Posted December 20, 2009 well a 4k head is off a 1.3L and a 5K is off a 1.5L god i feel even more stupid explaining that Quote
altezzaclub Posted December 20, 2009 Report Posted December 20, 2009 Port size I don't know, but you can be sure the 5K has a bigger combustion chamber. So a 4k onto a 5K block should raise the compression and a 5k onto a 4K block will lower it... Quote
67Rolla-Ken Posted December 20, 2009 Report Posted December 20, 2009 Love the answers you've got so far :) The 5K head does not have a blast chamber in the bottom, the blast chamber is in the top of the pistons. The 4K head has the blast chamber in the head, pistons are flat on the top :P I'm sure there are other differences, but this is the biggest. You can pick a 5K head because it has a rib below one of the spark plugs. Quote

Pretty sure I've read that a 4K head on a 5K LOWERS compression, which is what some people have done when boosting a K engine. If I remember correctly, 3/4/5k port sizes are the same. A 5k has hydraulic lifters too, whereas all other K-series engines have solid lifters! Quote
67Rolla-Ken Posted December 20, 2009 Report Posted December 20, 2009 Forgot about the lifters :P I've had mine converted to solid so I could run a lumpy cam :) Quote
skidsharpe Posted December 20, 2009 Author Report Posted December 20, 2009 ok thanks guys. So if i was to put one on a 3k motor it would lower the CR? Quote
SLO-030 Posted December 20, 2009 Report Posted December 20, 2009 NO! 5k head onto a 4k or 3K especially would bring the compression up to something crazy. 5K head > 3K High to VERY HIGH comp 5k head > 4K Even Higher comp 5k Head > 4K-U Stock Comression 3K head > 5k Low comp 4k head > 5K Lower comp 4K-U head > 5K Stock Compression Quote

tojo2 Posted December 20, 2009 Report Posted December 20, 2009 yes, there`s 2 different 4k heads and 2 different 5k heads Twin squish 4k head (as in 4k-u amongst others) are the same as most 5k heads. These have slightly larger ports than the regular "flat top piston" 4K heads, way smaler combustion chambers, and use shorter pushrods Quote
