-=KE30=- Posted December 20, 2009 Report Posted December 20, 2009 Hey everyone, Now ive had a look but can't find a straight answer.. I have a 76 Ke30 sedan.. and i got a ke38 4 speed gearbox and have got it all in.. now the problem is the shifter hole.. sits further forward then my shifter hole in the 30 originally auto.. is the only way i can get around this is to cut the floor or what..? I think it is but i want to check and also do i just pop rivit some steel over the old shifter hole? Cheers Josh Quote
Taz_Rx Posted December 21, 2009 Report Posted December 21, 2009 2 options: 1, Do what you've suggested and cut the tunnel. Yes pop rivet or screw some steel plate over the other hole. 2, get a KE70 K40 or K50 as they have the shifter further back in the right spot. :) Quote
silverra23 Posted December 21, 2009 Report Posted December 21, 2009 Angle grinder or jigsaw with a metal blade for the win, and then use some ally sheet to cover up the hole. Make sure you cover the gear stick hole first so no swarf gets in there. Quote
philbey Posted December 21, 2009 Report Posted December 21, 2009 Butchers, all of you. Cut the opening, complete with the nuts out, cut a rectangle of steel out from forward of the shifter hole, swap the two around and reweld the lot in. riveting bits in.... pffft. Butchers. Quote
silverra23 Posted December 21, 2009 Report Posted December 21, 2009 Butcher yes.. cos I can't weld :) Quote
SLO-030 Posted December 21, 2009 Report Posted December 21, 2009 Yep, KE70 gearboxes line up nicely with the hole for the auto in a ke3x/5x. Mine was orig auto, then floor cut for ke30 4spd then I put in a KE70 5spd. I just sikaflexed a steel plate over the hole. No heat, no swarf  Quote

Cheers for all the info guys really appreciate it As far as i know it SHOULD work. From what i'm aware of is that the trimatic has a different output shaft whereas the A20 (? - two speed auto) shares the same output shaft pattern as the manual. Length of the tailshaft - i can't really quote on the length between the 2 speed auto and the manual, i'm yet to find out but i'd say it would be. But the shafts between the trimatic and the manual are the same Quote
