tylerrice Posted December 9, 2009 Report Posted December 9, 2009 hey again all... Curious to what a rocker cover is, i know where it goes but what is it actually? I have seen them for sale and was wondering if its the actual top part of the motor or just a cover that slides over the top part?? Thanks all. Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted December 9, 2009 Report Posted December 9, 2009 Its the top part of engine yes. sits on top of the head and stops oil from spraying all over your engine bay, and also stop crap getting in your engine. Quote
philbey Posted December 10, 2009 Report Posted December 10, 2009 Also known as a Rocket cover. But I never found the rockets on mine, previous owner must have removed them. Quote
67Rolla-Ken Posted December 10, 2009 Report Posted December 10, 2009 Don't confuse the guy Philbey :hmm: The Rocker cover is covering the rocker assembly. If you google for a basic engine breakdown you should be able to find a diagram with all these items labeled. I'll see if I can dig one up for you :( Quote
tylerrice Posted December 10, 2009 Author Report Posted December 10, 2009 yeah that's the one i was looking at on ebay, but wondering do you have to take anything off the motor to put it on or is it like a hat for the motor... Quote
Felix Posted December 10, 2009 Report Posted December 10, 2009 (edited) Really it should be called a Valve Cover. On a K motor yes, it does cover the rockers. These days with the advent of OHC and DOHC not many motors use rockers. Edited December 10, 2009 by Felix Quote
67Rolla-Ken Posted December 10, 2009 Report Posted December 10, 2009 With a K motor you can just undo the 2 bolts, pull the hose off the top (if it has a hose) and take it off. You won't do any harm by taking it off. I'm guessing you want to polish it up?? Nice easy way to tidy up your engine bay :hmm: Quote
tylerrice Posted December 10, 2009 Author Report Posted December 10, 2009 so its a hat for the engine.... Quote
Jason KE30 Posted December 10, 2009 Report Posted December 10, 2009 Haha, best name for a rocker cover ever!! Quote
tylerrice Posted December 10, 2009 Author Report Posted December 10, 2009 lol yeh? I'm just trying to simplify what it is... Quote
RedKE30 Posted December 10, 2009 Report Posted December 10, 2009 lol yeh? I'm just trying to simplify what it is... Well yeah it is sort of like a hat, but it has more useful functions. As explained above it keeps oil in and other stuff out. Its not like a hat where you can put a completely different one on...if that's what you're asking. Its primary purpose is not to look good. Is that what you were looking for? Quote
tylerrice Posted December 10, 2009 Author Report Posted December 10, 2009 yeah i figured that, so it keeps oil out, less heat? what else are its purposes? are they worth it? anyone selling one? how much? post to NSW or pick up near Hornsby? :hmm: Quote
67Rolla-Ken Posted December 10, 2009 Report Posted December 10, 2009  It keeps oil IN and dirt out!!! Yes they are worth it... you must use it! That polished one on ebay looked hot! Your best to tart up the original (or buy a tarted up original), don't try and fit a non standard one. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted December 10, 2009 Report Posted December 10, 2009 Engine hat! :hmm: If you want to compare it to somthing like that then its more like a skull! A hat is more of a fashion excessory that not essential. Whereas you skull is pretty neccessary as it protects the top of you "engine" and keeps the "oil" in.... and everything else out. Quote
