KESR20 Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 Hello everyone, I'm new too the forums and too the engine swapping thing and was curious too know what engine i could swap out of my ke36, I like my Sr20 motors and turbo is acceptable because i don't plan on completing everything until I'm on my opens so does anyone know was i can use as a engine with turbo for decent power? and which is easier too install?what diffs do i go for and what body mods will i undergo for the swaps? sorry for all the questions but i feel i need to get this all ready before so I'm organised! Sam_Q Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 welcome to the forum. Before people get cranky can I suggest a read of the FAQ section and also do a heap of searches? Quote
KESR20 Posted December 4, 2009 Author Report Posted December 4, 2009 well i did a couple and noticed a few recent ones, and i see that people are putting the 3rz motors from hiluxes into there older cars! I'm actually considering it now! but I'm not too sure how much it would cost roughly for everything that ide need to get it in there and running. would anyone be able to give me a rough idea as how much it would set me back ? also would i have too change the back leafs in order too run it? or can i just put harder oones in? Sam_Q Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 get an extra leaf added and the rest reset, after that some anti tramp rods and your set Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 3rz motors from hiluxes definately consult an engineer about this if you want a turbo one, it may not be allowed. Sr20 is done to death, easy conversion as far as conversions go, from what ive read people have more trouble with 4ag coversions. The 3s beams is popping up a bit, i like! 1ggte fits, depends what you want out of the car though. People are getting 100rwkw out of simple efi forced 5k conversions, with the lack of extra weight, this is really cool! 3tg, 2tg, 18rg, all classic retro cool motors, vg20 would fit, and be legal, do that..... What I'm saying is do your research, and decide, it up to you!! Quote
KESR20 Posted December 5, 2009 Author Report Posted December 5, 2009 YOUR kidding! well i wanted too set it up as a daily, but have enough too take it drifting once in a while, i think the 5k would be gud! its not hard to swap a 5k into a car with a 3k? jip was talking too me about that the other day , would keep it more original aswell make it a easy cruiser too! Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted December 5, 2009 Report Posted December 5, 2009 A 5k is pretty much an identical motor to a 3k or 4k externally, so a dead easy swap. don't expect any major power gains though from one stock motor to another, definately a better base to start modifying though. As far as originality goes i personally disagree, why bother, a ke3x is worth SFA, and will always be worth SFA, if you had a ke2x i could see the point. Quote
KESR20 Posted December 5, 2009 Author Report Posted December 5, 2009 sorry, alittle bit noob but whats sfa? n I'm after something too give me sideways power for my Ps without all the dilema, is there a way too supe the 5k engine up? Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted December 5, 2009 Report Posted December 5, 2009 sfa= nothing. There are ways to modify the 5k, but without forced induction you really are not going to have much luck if drift is what you want. Quote
KESR20 Posted December 6, 2009 Author Report Posted December 6, 2009 damn, well i guess ill have too go big then. whats the engine swap laws in qld? by power too weight ratio or whatever.. sr20det shouldnt be too hard to do! Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 It is legal in qld, find the engineer you are going to use, build the car with him in the loop. Be prepared to spend 7-10g doing everything yourself. Quote
KESR20 Posted December 6, 2009 Author Report Posted December 6, 2009 that shud be ok hahaha its a car, its not meant too be too cheap in the end Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 If you aren't extremely handy mechanically you're looking at more like 20-30g. Quote
