Evan G Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 18R-C Just putting it out there. are these in 1980 hilux? with a air pump? if so +1 Quote
SLO-030 Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 holden 202 engines lasts forever but even with major modification still slow and thirsty as anything +1. Although Mines mildly modded and isnt really slow. I know the Astrons are getting slammed but we owned an 83 skidma with a 2.6 Astron/3spd auto. After 5yrs, 1 minor service, Boat towing, a few big circle work sessions and multiple outtings for bunny bashin/ shooting. It still ran as good as it ever did. Quote
macca__1590 Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 .....whats that 7m's!? :| :D +1 tell me about it......... aside from that still a good donk, I'm my opinion anyway Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 I bought a Skoda back in nz for 40 bucks. Think it was a 73, had the engine in the back. 0-100 in 3 weeks. Hills? don't bother. It was like driving a forklift the oversteer was so bad. Ended up chopping the roof off and hand painting purple flames down it. More rust than car but was a bit of fun for a couple of weeks. Quote
doripig_01 Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 Ill go with the G161 gemini engine, in total i destroyed 9 of them, all shattering bottom ends.. not to mention constant head gasket blowouts, noisy timing chains, my HJ ute, 202 with 3 on the tree on gas.. regular 8k gear shifts, never missed a beat.. Bamboo Posted January 2, 2010 Report Posted January 2, 2010 Ok, need to put this out there. Mitsubishi in the 80's were so crap the company finally admitted they used inferior alloy in their heads and did a recall. Only to find the first series magnas cracked between the welsh plugs. (bad casting). So any Mitsu is not to be trusted. Camira? Soft rings. recall by factory. enough said! My worst. Go to the start of the thread. Starfire (missfire) 4. Theoretically nothing wrong, but a true lemon in design and construction! Quote
JiP Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 Did someone say Camira? haha I saw this the other day. Now is it just me or is it rusting already in the advert? Oh and that optional computer WOW!! Pitty it also didn't list how long till your next head gasket ;) Quote
7shades Posted January 3, 2010 Report Posted January 3, 2010 Heh... We had a Camira braaaaand spankers new in 1980-something... It was the last model with the VL commo looking front clip. Even had the 'space age' trip computer ;) Quote

Ive had alot of Geminis and the Ive never done a head gasket, only ever done a bottom end after a burnout that lasted about 7-8mins on pure valve bounce, and only shifted at valve bounce always going through at least 4tyres a week (on a slow week lol) sure they were slow but good on juice and never really gave me any trouble.
