mitch_mac Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 ok once again i have a problem its probably simple but ive tryed to get it to work it wont acouple of days back i fitted twin delorto dhla 40s the car has started and ran a handful of times but now it doesnt want to start right it wants to go wer wer wer but not enough to turn it over =S its also hard to start because it takes abit with the carbies on it sometimes it come close but when i go to try it again it has no poke =S so if someone can help that would be great thanks mitch Quote
mungi mods Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 try another battery also check timing it could be out which will make it hard to start what fuel pump are you using... may not be getting enough fuel to the twins.. Quote
mitch_mac Posted November 23, 2009 Author Report Posted November 23, 2009 there is heaps of fuel standard pump though upgrading to electric soon only other thing i tryed to start it for about a minute and it started smoking from around the carbies =S its started and ran fine about ten times or so I'm gonna put the leads on it tomorow and see if that helps Quote
parrot Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 It could be a hundred things. If you are running the standard fuel pump. you may well be washing the bores. Quote
mitch_mac Posted November 23, 2009 Author Report Posted November 23, 2009 washing the bores? there is alot of fuel in the flutes the car is also jetted for a much larger enjine 2litre i think it came off and I'm running a 4k Quote
parrot Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 The pressure from the standard pump may be too much for the needle and seats in the carbs. It isn't a jetting thing. The fuel bowl keeps filling then overflows because the fuel pressure is too high for the needle to seat and stop the flow of fuel. Does it stink of fuel? But then it could be other things. Quote
mitch_mac Posted November 23, 2009 Author Report Posted November 23, 2009 yeh it smells alot like fuel ive been told the carbys only use 4-5 psi of fuel? how much will a adjustable fuel pump set me back ruffly? Quote
bLinded_ Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 Does it turn over at a constant speed though just doesn't fire? Or is it actually just not cranking over at a constant/steady speed? I'd be leaning away from too much fuel pressure, though that's not to say it isn't the case. I have had twin 40s on my car for over 6 months now with the standard mechanical fuel pump and havn't had any problems. If it had started and ran before, I'd be putting money on a dud starter motor/battery or along those lines. Quote
parrot Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 Well before you start paying out for adjustable regulators, you should work out whether that is your problem. Not that a regulator would hurt. Presumably you have run the battery down trying to start it. If you have been pumping the throttle it will be flooded. Fully charge the battery, and work through logically. If all you have done is bolted on a manifold with carbies, look back at what you have done and check your work. Once the battery is charged, try again whilst holding the throttle down, but do not pump it. You are trying to clear out fuel mixture. If it starts, it will likely run like a pig if it is jetted for a 2 litre. Quote
mitch_mac Posted November 23, 2009 Author Report Posted November 23, 2009 ill take the battery out tomorow and do that ive been over the carbys manifold all my lines and emitions about 3 times because i have had acouple of air leaks witch are all fixed now i have had it running its not to bad it just idles abit high id say i have flooded it the last time i pumped the throttle about 3 times as i was getting pretty short with it Quote
silverra23 Posted November 23, 2009 Report Posted November 23, 2009 Battery is first stop. Then pull your plugs out and rub the electrodes with a bit of emery paper. Chances are you have fouled them with all this over fuelling etc. Then crank it and don't give it more than one stab on the throttle. Quote
philbey Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 I'd just go get the fuel pressure reg - my pump was putting out more than 5psi. There's so many different pumps out there blinded might just have got lucky with his. 50 bucks for a holley red. Clean plugs as mentioned. give the carb 3-4 pumps then hold them flat open; that's how I start my dellortos every morning, no problem. Quote
mitch_mac Posted November 24, 2009 Author Report Posted November 24, 2009 just put new plugs in yesterday aswell ill try and start it thismorning and see what happens Quote
mitch_mac Posted November 24, 2009 Author Report Posted November 24, 2009 cabys off emptyed out all the petrol and put in a fuel presure gauge its only pumping about 5psi battery charged put it all back together and she goes =] Quote
philbey Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 I'd put a reg on it, every bit of literature I read on Dellortos said 3-4 maximum. Quote
