flat out Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 hey guys after an opinion on what pistons to get with my rebuild kit, i have the option of wiseco forged pistons to suit 4age or 4agze, plans for the engine it to rebuild it and run it NA untill i have every thing sorted then fit turbo (HKS T28) and aftermarket computer ect, i could get 4agze pistons and shave the head to bring the compression back up to near stock then i have to source a new head once the turbo goes on (allows me to build a decent head with cams and such) 4age pistons and run a decomp plate 4age pistons and keep the boost lowish and still be drivable off boost thanks guys  also its a smallport if it makes any different Quote
Jono Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 new owner of my old car made 127rwkw at only 7psi with the smallport (i had 130rwkw at 10psi on a different tune which was still very safe). my advice for you would be to rebuild with smallport GZE pistons (8.9:1) which would still be driveable without boost, then very capable of high boost when you need it. kiahn Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 get the GZE pistons and only reface the block, will have around 9:1 compression as mentioned and you will be able to run pretty high boost later on whilst still keeping it drivable without the turbo on what size can you bore the block out to if you use the wiseco pistons?? Taz_Rx Posted November 16, 2009 Report Posted November 16, 2009 Thats a GTR T28 (as aposed to SR) isn't it? Quote
flat out Posted November 17, 2009 Author Report Posted November 17, 2009 yeah si it is an aftermarket gtr turbo, every thing was hks (manifold turbo, dumps ect) what i want to achieve when its turbo it to come onto boost like a slap in the face Quote
Taz_Rx Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 What size rear housing does it have. the low the number the quicker it'll spool. I was going to offer to "road test" it for you if it was an SR one! Quote
flat out Posted November 17, 2009 Author Report Posted November 17, 2009 lol its 40 something i shall check Quote
Jono Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 i had a HKS 2540 on the 4age and it spooled up so damn quickly. Quote
seabiscuit Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 (edited) Mmm... I'd use the GZE pistons, shave the head and then source another head for when you are going turbo. That way you are able to pick and choose between an NA setup or boosted setup with the different heads. Edited November 17, 2009 by seabiscuit Quote
flat out Posted November 17, 2009 Author Report Posted November 17, 2009 JONO, did the turbo run out of puff up in the rev's and such? i know the one i have is small but it should be responsive, steel wheel and bb for $100 who am i to complain? no shaft play either Quote
Instigator Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 Another +1 for 8.9 ceramic coated GZE pistons. $400 from MrToyota brand new can't go wrong. Quote
greenmac80 Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 go on www.club4ag.com a store on there is selling ARIAS forgies for $449 US + i think approx $30US shipping. that comes with rings as well. with our current exchange rate it ends up quite cheap for forged pistons and rings. Quote
Jono Posted November 17, 2009 Report Posted November 17, 2009 JONO, did the turbo run out of puff up in the rev's and such? when it was NA i used to rev my motor to 7800rpm, when it was turboed i never really had to rev it past 6000 - 6500rpm. the torque was awesome everywhere, and felt strong in the light car.
