Mr Hardware Posted June 24, 2005 Report Posted June 24, 2005 Here here listen up.  I have driven ALOT of cars in my time. I have even drifted a taxi.  Drifting is SLOWER!  Y'see, the whole purpose of a motor in a car is to make the car move. To do this, you need the power to the ground. Whilst drifting, you have next to no power to the ground.  I drive the same route to my girlfriends house every time and have done so for the past few years. I KNOW the quickest way is NOT to DRIFT. The quickest way is grip. I have tested this in a:  * KE55 * Widebody Camry * Narrowbody Camry * New Echo * ED Falcon * VH Commodore * AU Taxi  And I guarantee you the quickest way is grip. From brand new fats on the VH to bald retreads on the ED, grip is quicker.  How do you drift a Widebody Camry? Haha! Now thats another story... Quote
Teddy Posted June 24, 2005 Report Posted June 24, 2005 camry drifting? Â Must have something to do with mackers trays.. Quote
KE70MAN Posted June 25, 2005 Report Posted June 25, 2005 hey guys um drifting is NOT quicker than normal driving through a corner, although...  drifting was used in japanese mountain events where people like Keiichi Tsuchiya (a.k.a drift king) tried out different manouvers to try and get through corners at a higher speed, because they had under-powered cars and it was difficult. its a fact that this benifited him, as he was the only driver to use this corner treatment. here is the history of what he achieved   1977 Debut in Fuji Freshman series. 1977-1984 Ran selected entries in All Japan Touring Car championship. 1984 Fuji Freshman series race (Toyota AE86)= 6 wins 1985 All Japan Touring Car championship (Toyota AE86) 1st in Class 3 1986 Corolla Sprinter Cup-2 podium places 1987 All Japan Touring Car championship (Honda Civic)-1 win 1988 Toyota Cup-1st overall     All Japan Touring Car championship (BMW M30)-3rd in Class 2     Macau Guia race (BMW M3)-4th overall 1989 All Japan F3 championship     All Japan Touring Car championship (Ford Sierra Cosworth)-1 win 1990 All Japan Touring Car championship (Ford Sierra Cosworth)     Macau Guia race (Ford Sierra Cosworth)     New Zealand Touring Car series (Toyota) 1991 All Japan F3 championship (Ralt-Mugen)-10th overall     All Japan Touring Car championship (Nissan Skyline GT-R)-5th overall 1992 All Japan Touring Car championship (Nissan Skyline GT-R) 1993 All Japan Touring Car championship (Taisan Nissan Skyline GT-R)-1 win     Japan Endurance series (Honda Prelude)-2nd Tsukuba 12 Hours 1994 All Japan GT championship (Porsche 911T)-1 win     All Japan Touring Car championship (Honda Civic)     Suzuka 1000kms (Porsche 911T)-1st in class, 2nd overall     Le Mans 24 Hours (Honda NSX)-18th overall 1995 All Japan GT championship (Porsche911TRSR)     All Japan Touring Car championship (Honda Civic)     Suzuka 1000kms (Honda NSX)-5th overall     Tokachi 12 Hours (Honda NSX)-1st overall     Le Mans 24 Hours (Honda NSX)-1st in class 1996 All Japan GT championship (Honda NSX)-13th overall     Entered NASCAR Thunder Special race at Suzuka     Le mans 24 Hours (Honda NSX)-3rd in class 1997 All Japan GT championship (Porsche 911/Dodge Viper)     Fuji InterTec race (Toyota Chaser)     Suzuka 1000kms (Lark McLaren F1 GTR)-9th overall     Entered NASCAR Thunder Special race at Suzuka     Le Mans 24 Hours (Lark McLaren F1 GTR)-qualified 10th, retired from race 1998 All Japan Touring Car championship (Toyota Chaser)-7th overall     All Japan GT championship (Toyota Supra)-8th overall     Le Mans 24 Hours (Toyota GT-One)-9th overall      NASCAR at the California Speedway. 1999 Japan Touring Car Championship(Advan Altezza Touring car). 2000-2001 he joined team ARTA racing a NSX once again in the All Japan GT championship.  on tar, drifting is not always the fastest option, as u can see with V8's and other car races. and on dirt drifting is used for almost every corner, because if they slow down too much for a corner and then accelerate out, all they get is wheelspin and therefore: no traction= they go nowhere.. they use this drift technique to keep high rpm and speed so that they can get back up to their suited speed.  Carl. mikeys toy[RL] Posted June 25, 2005 Report Posted June 25, 2005 my God, i feel like i'm in 3rd grade again. all i can say is; when i used to race the cricket in autox....i lost tons of time when i drifted (before it was cool) Quote
Mr Revhead[RL] Posted June 25, 2005 Report Posted June 25, 2005 :) :) Â Â do not confuse drifting. with a four wheel drift, scandanavian flick etc etc. Â i bet you "one MILLION dollars" that the guy above didnt drift his mclaren f1  Â Â FACT: DRIFTING IS SLOW PERIOD, END OF STORY. Quote
Starlet82 Posted June 25, 2005 Report Posted June 25, 2005 Well.....if you really really really really wanna drift, why don't you take your tyres out of your back wheels. you can drift all day if you want. Â So thats what a motorkhana is!! Here in the philippines we call it a Slalom race. Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted June 25, 2005 Report Posted June 25, 2005 we called it that, too but we went a lot faster and farther than that video Quote
demuire Posted June 25, 2005 Report Posted June 25, 2005 probably don't have many of these around where ur from, i'd say. Â Malaysia does have similar events (all started recently), I think these are the definitions they have: Â What is AutocrossAutocross is low to medium speed car racing events. They're normally held at carparks or large open tarmac with the course marked out with cones. Cars are released in single form on the course and timed. A typical course usually includes slaloms. Â What is Gymkhana Gymkhana is very much similar to Autocross except competitors are also required to perform various maneuvers such as circling a cone or pylon or a figure 8 pattern. Â What is Autokhana Autokhana is a precision driving event. Besides navigating the course, competitors are required to perform parking maneuvers and slaloms in both forward motion and reverse. Â But I'd be making a guess that they only really run these events in KL and stuff, not in smaller towns like Ipoh. Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted June 25, 2005 Report Posted June 25, 2005 yes....those were the days..... '99 i finished 32 out of 100 overall and dead last in my class they put me in unlimited 'cause i put a datsun engine in a english chrysler oh, my STOCK A14 consistently hits 6,700 rpm then the rev limiter cuts it out someone posted that his A12 couldn't hit 6grand w/o grenading Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted June 25, 2005 Report Posted June 25, 2005 oh, ya.....i just went for a drive in bubba...... he is now the OFFICIAL dirt drift whore..... got some major carb issues, but i just tap the brake and he's sideways, perfectly controllable, just like he was on marbles understeers like hell on the road, though Quote
Super Jamie Posted June 25, 2005 Report Posted June 25, 2005 yeah, powerful corollas are like that. i'd nail the pedal in my ke25 on grass, and it would just flick 45 degrees to the driving direction, and you could countersteer and hold it so good :P Quote
