alex.wilson Posted November 7, 2009 Report Posted November 7, 2009 hey, i was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to respray my car. the whole car is going to be primed so basically i need tips on spraying, I'm using a gun. thanks Quote
ke30dude Posted November 7, 2009 Report Posted November 7, 2009 What sort of gun are you using gravity feed or suction? What type of paint are you using? So many other questions before others can help with what seemed like a simple thing to ask :) Quote
ke70dave Posted November 7, 2009 Report Posted November 7, 2009 just have a crack at it on a spare panel/tree/dog/side of house/road.... when we sprayed my car we had no idea what we were doing, but the inside of our makeshift spray booth (plastic sheets) got a nice coating of paint for about 1hr before we turned on the car.... from what we gathered you only want enough air to get an even spread of paint. to much air and it tends to "blow around" the paint on the panel. (on your gun is an air valve thing, and also a fan adjustment? i think) like ke30dude has said, we need some more info to give some specific answers. Quote
kangaroosa Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 (edited) Have a search on here for words like "concept" "acrylic" made by myself. I did a small write up years ago. I sprayed the roof of my daily last weekend as it was all faded. This is the finish you can achieve with acrylic paint straight out of the gun. Its yet to be blocked back then cut and polished. alex.wilson Posted November 8, 2009 Author Report Posted November 8, 2009 ok, well I'm using 2 pak and the gun is bottom mount i think, so is that suction? which is the best gun to use? Quote
Evan G Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 with 2pak just give the old paint a light sand to get the new paint to stick, wear gloves / resperator and don't leave any skin exposed HIGHLY TOXIC, if theres small dints / straches just give em a squirt of primer and rub back Quote
phantom Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 I'm spraying my car this week and the advantage of using acrylic is that if you get runs its as easy as sand out and paint again. 2pak is better left to the professionals as the finish is harder to achieve. any automotive paint is best when painted more air than paint coming from the gun and gravity fed is always a little better. Check out these write-ups, I found them very useful! http://www.nissansilvia.com/forums/index.p...159153&st=0 http://monsterguide.net/how-to-paint-a-car Quote
greenmac80 Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 acrylic is perfect for DIY painter. its easy to apply. but acrylic is soft so a 2 pack clear is needed. Quote
kangaroosa Posted November 8, 2009 Report Posted November 8, 2009 ok, well I'm using 2 pak and the gun is bottom mount i think, so is that suction? which is the best gun to use? Gravity fed is preferred. You realise the health effects from using 2 Pack paints? Are you spraying in a shed at home and do your neighbours know? Quote
