usually a sign your diff is on the way out ive found from experience

If it's anything like my old KE70, the spider gears have flogged out within the housing, so when you put the boot in, the gears are tilting just enough to stop them from spinning, essentially making it a ghetto (accidental) Detroit locker......

 

Just replace the diff center and you're set.

stock centre .. never wheel spun it or tried to..

the diff is not noisy or anything so i don't think its flogged out

I assume it has a banjo style diff? As i have heard kicking both wheels is a sign its worn. Did the same in my 25 when i managed to get wheel spin.
