Invisible Dark Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 My clutch is going to need replaced in the next few months...maybe weeks. Just wondering what sort of cost i might be looking at and any recomended garages in Brisbane for doing it? Or is it do able with a decent set of tools and some know how (and time)> Any info on the topic of changing the clutch would be great i.e. whether to buy one myself to be fitted or let the garage handle the lot. Its a 1989 CSX Twin Cam carb engine, 5 spd. Thanks Quote
beerhead Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 FWD clutch swaps are a pain without a crane or a hoist, not saying it can't be done, but it is tedious. Probably looking at $700-1000 for a walk in walk out clutch swap if the mechanic is honest, but I've heard of people getting stung much worse. A good set of tools and a torque wrench is a must to do the job properly. BTW don't touch PRB (clutch industries) clutches if you drive your car hard. I'm not impressed with mine. Quote
930LLO Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 It can be a pain in the ass if you don't know what you are doing. I use an engine lift and a trolley jack, a few tools and grease. Shops over charge for this job considering they have car lifts and such. If I have to change my clutch I like to take my engine out give it a clean up refresh it will new oil, timming belt, crank belts, charger oil, plugs ect ect. And it can be done all in a weekend. Being a 4af they are easy to do this and less time consuming. I would get somebody that knows how to do it and pay them rather than a mechanic that can f@$k with other stuff. Quote
