I'm changing the pads on my 97 corolla conquest. This is for the rear wheels: I have removed 3 bolts, 2 that hold the caliper braket and one at the bottom of the caliper. Still the caplier isnt coming off.

There doesnt seem to be any other bolts that i can remove. There is nothing at the top of the caliper. there seems to be a round thing where a bolt would normally sit but there is no way to remove it. However the front calipers have bolts holding the top and the bottom in.

What bolt am I missing for the rears?

Ive managed to remove the calipers. However I can seem to remove the hub/cap in the disc's. Is there a tool that removes it? Or can I screw bolts into the two threaded holes not taken up by the wheel nut threads and then the disc will push off the hub?

Dude, you don't need to touch the hub or the discs to do the pad changes. In fact, the best way to do it keeps the caliper bolted to the hub - you just unbolt the lower guide pin (the one with the rubber boot on it) and then hinge the caliper up, exposing the pads which then just pop off.

Sorry Hiro, I think i didnt explain myself properly. I am changing both pads and disc's. I know how to change the pads but I can't get the disc off the hub. Any hints?

Ahh, to do that you need to fully remove the caliper, then the disc should just pull straight off. If it doesn't (ie it is stuck on there), get a bunch of bolts of the right size to fit in the holes not being used by the wheel studs, and progressively tighten each bolt to push the disc off the hub.

Cheers. Do you recommend putting some sort of compound on the hub when putting the new disc?

If you still have problems removing the discs, make sure the handbrake is de-adjusted, and spray some WD40 or a penetrant of some kind onto the hub ring where the disc sits, then hit it with a hammer (use a soft faced hammer or hit the drum part)

Thanks for the tips fellas.

Just one more question. When I take the tyre off there is this cap (as seen below) in the middle of the disc for the rears. Do you remove this first before taking the disc off? Or do I just slide the disc off without touching this cap thing? Is it the same for the front brakes? The fronts don't have this cap, its sort of like a bolt with a pin. Is it the same process as the rears?

No need to touch it, it's the dust cap/bearing retainer I think and stays in the hub - the disc should just slide off

we seem to be having problems pushing the brake piston in. Is there an easy way to push it back in?

we have been using a clamp to push it back in but it isn't moving back in at all.

dude you really need a manual, its a maintenance requirement for basic work as

most cars are not complex but feature different components and systems that

are simple step by step processes, its irrelevant to skill or experience, more of a

easy way to do it in the right order and make sure its done properly :)

The rear caliper piston is threaded as it also integrates the hand-brake, you can't (and shouldn't) just push it back in. Either get the proper caliper piston resetting tool (looks like a hollow cube with little horns and a 3/8" socket drive attachment) or a pair of needle-nose pliers and turn the caliper clockwise whilst pushing it.
