KE55PIG Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 hey guys got a couple small questions Is the twin carb manifold ports any bigger then standard 4k head eg should the head have a slight port job ? would it be a good idea to run 2 standard 4k\5k carbs on the manifold ? (bigger throats and jets the the carbs on there)hoping they link up the same as the twins ? What price do they roughly go for ? Also should i expect a gain over a standard single Is going on to a engine with slightly raised comp an 286 deg cam cheers for the info and help Quote
corolla_nut Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 the ports on the 3k-b manifold are larger than stock, I'm planning on matching the ports carefully when I finally build my grumpy 4k to go in the ke11. I'm going to be using the original carburettors on my setup. I'd imagine that the 4k/5k carburettors would flow more air but you may need to jet them differently... linkages SHOULD (nothing in life is easy) be ok to use on other carburettors.... but I'm not quite sure on that so... good luck tuning your engine if you are driving it on the street with a 286 degree cam... although twin carburettors would be the way to do it. we have a 276 degree cam (i think) and its pretty bloody lopey at idle... she loves it though :jamie: Robert. KE55PIG Posted October 17, 2009 Author Report Posted October 17, 2009 cheers buddy ill get the ports matched to my head and bring my compression up a bit more at same time. I would like to use the origonals but don't no if they would flow enough ?? The car isnt going to really be street driven it is a track car drift and motorkana but is regeod mainly for test puposes yea i was told it was a pretty unstreetable cam but well c how i go just wanna build a powerful 4k/5k maybe cheap. corolla_nut Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 run at least 10.5:1 static compression.... and you NEED a regraphed electronic distributor as well. I'd reccommend a lightened flywheel and getting everything balanced. Robert. Quote
KE55PIG Posted October 17, 2009 Author Report Posted October 17, 2009 cheers buddy i have a electronic distributor but no coil or ignitor and really don't no what to use for it. Quote
coln72 Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 As said, ports are bigger, same size as a big port 3k head. I always ran std 3k carbies on a 3k-b manifold with no issues. Linkages may or may link up depending whether you have an early or late set up. Early set up has ball and cup connectors between the linkage and carby and later ones had a screw type fitting (I think). Had to cut and shut the carby connections to get the early type ball fittings to suit my twin linkages on my first set of 3k-b's. The second set I had didnt come with linkages so I had to make my own set up using old fuel line :jamie: Quote
corolla_nut Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 I used magna internals in a bosch distributor, and I use the standard magna module and a high energy electronic coil. performance ignition services in victoria should be able to regraph it for you to suit the cam and compression. Robert. Quote
KE55PIG Posted October 18, 2009 Author Report Posted October 18, 2009 This type is what ill be using and probally putting 4k maybe 5k carby on it.and i have all the internalls and stuff in mine i just need to know what coil and ignitor to get Quote
Zoidburg Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 Does anyone know where to source those twin carby 3K-B manifolds from? Also where can I find a performance cam for a 3K? I know this stuff exists, but just can't seem to find them anywhere! Cheers Quote
Raven Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 3K-B setups are hard to come by as they came off the ealier KE15/KE17 Corolla Sprinters. The only way you'll get a manifold is if someone is selling their 3K-B setup. Regarding camshafts, talk to an engine reconditioner and he can point you in the right direction to someone who does camshaft regrinds. Quote
KE55PIG Posted October 25, 2009 Author Report Posted October 25, 2009 yes the value of 3k-b manfolds will slowly rise now i have one lol Quote
coln72 Posted October 27, 2009 Report Posted October 27, 2009 mmmmm - never paid more than $25 for a complete 3k-b set up  Quote
camerondownunder88 Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 Raven Twin carbie manifold were on KE1X to KE5X. KE15/17 ones how ever slightly different to all other twin carbie setups. You can tell if you have a KE1X or other twin setup by the shape of the ports adn shape of the triangle that bolts it to the exhaust manifold. And opn port shape 2 types. Port shape size of the big port head also can get twin carbie manifolds with smaller ports that were on later model K motors. I got a set off a KE50 air cleaner to manifolds and it is a small port manifold bolts right up to a K motor no porting out needed to match. Also the exhaust manifolds to suit these bad boys are harder top find btw... I have 3 sets picked up at varing prices off different models different prices so depends what you want condition etc. Quote
KE55PIG Posted October 28, 2009 Author Report Posted October 28, 2009 coln how do u find them for that they go around 150-250 Quote
Taz_Rx Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 coln how do u find them for that they go around 150-250 As with all bargain buying its a case of "right place, right time"!!! :jamie: I bought a K-T bellhousing once for $50 INCLUDING POSTAGE from Melbourne. Quote
