original Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 So my drums are screwed and I figured I'd do the conversion while I'm in there fixing the old. So my question is has anyone done this and is anyone keen to give me a hand to do it. It's my daily so I'd be keen to do it asap. Also if anyone is near a wreckers who has seen the required parts and is keen to grab them and post them that would be great. Quote

Hey mate, Have done this, Get the rear brake setup off of a vn commodore, They are a bolt on, I had to do something with the handbrake cable but can't remember. Quote
KEI069 Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 I have done this swap a few times and it is quite easy, however i would recommend changing the axles over complete with the disc setup as there are steel spacers behind the backing plates which are for bearing preload and affect end float from memory. The vl and vn rear discs and calipers are the same so you can use either but the axles are differnt hope this helps a little Cheers Justin Quote
original Posted October 14, 2009 Author Report Posted October 14, 2009 Cheers guys, thanks for the quick replies. I'll look into it. If there is anyone in northern Sydney who wants to give me a hand that would be great Quote
Trev Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 I remembered about the hand brake cable, I had to use the vn one, The problem I had was the 1st cable I got was stuffed and as above I'm pretty sure the guy I worked with changed the axles. Quote
nIsMo86 Posted October 20, 2009 Report Posted October 20, 2009 Yep you need to use the disc axles. Using the drum axles will ruin the wheel bearings. Did this conversion on my VL few years ago. Fairly easy to do. Quote

There is no alternative to shortening axles or screwing bearings? Quote
tambovski Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 (edited) Sorry for stupid question, but what does "VL" and "VN" means? Edited October 26, 2009 by tambovski Quote
