LukeAE71 Posted December 2, 2009 Author Report Posted December 2, 2009 (edited) I picked up some Gabriel inserts for it second hand, not much use on them. They are not short stroke I know but I guess they will do for the meantime to get this shock/spring assembly together. I checked out the price on some camber tops from Noltec. I might have to assess some other options. I thought Cusco made some for TE27. Might have to check with that place I hate and finally buy something from them. I swore I never would but now might be the time to give in. I think I want to get some spare struts though in case something goes to shit whilst making these. I will search around for some, or if someone has some pm me I will take them :D I have decided these wheels are going on the car, so when I do a 114.3 conversion and disc brake on the front then I will order the second pair in 114.3. I'm measuring the struts this weekend for the Otomoto Kit. Edited December 2, 2009 by LukeAE71 Quote
ScottKE1X Posted December 2, 2009 Report Posted December 2, 2009 (edited) Here's a thread worth watching... I agree with Tom, get into it. Just make sure you finish what you start and get out there with a cruiser like no other. I'm sure to have some spare ke10 struts if you're in no hurry for them. I think they might have smaller holes for the bolts to the steering knuckle arm than ke11 though.... Keep progress pics coming Scott. Edited December 2, 2009 by ScottKE1X Quote
LukeAE71 Posted December 4, 2009 Author Report Posted December 4, 2009 (edited) I have had two close calls in this thing in as many days. Making me seriously consider not using it as a daily for now  Yesterday I was minding my own business in a 100 zone, car in front ample distance ahead, next thing you know car in front slams on brakes and comes to a complete stop. I knew I wasn't going to pull up so I swerved for the side of the road before hitting the skids. I pulled up half a metre away from a barbwire farm fence!! I stopped a long way past where the car had stopped so if I went straight I would have creamed it, end of KE11 thats for sure. Reason car in front stopped so quick, a fecking Koala Tonight coming home through Upper Sturt Road, go around a left hand bend, car four cars in front decides needs to turn right off Main Road in a hurry, car coming other way so he stops, cars in front slam on brakes, I had the least amount of space with which to stop being at the back so swerve to the left again and hit skids. I realise I am really not going to make it by now (pull up) heading for the back end of a Rav4 so I pushed down even harder and locked the brakes. I didn't think the drums would lock up??? Somehow the KE11 skidded and pulled to the right and the passenger side ass end went off the road and I ended up passenger door facing the back of the Rav4 and the front of my car facing the opposite side of the road. I get out as everyone had stopped and heard the skids. I am about 10 cm away from the towbar of the Rav4. The car who turned right and caused the shit, nowhere to be seen. You kent!!! :D Either no more daily or I need to upgrade to better tyres and disc brakes. Scared the crap out of me thats for sure :jamie: Edited December 4, 2009 by LukeAE71 Quote
ScottKE1X Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 Bugger. If you've got drums on the front still, you need to definately upgrade. Its easy to do you just need to chase down the parts. checkout FAQ here: http://www.rollaclub.com/faq/index.php?tit...ont_Disc_Brakes Sounds pretty hairy... I've never driven a ke10 without disc because I do the upgrade to disc before I put them on the road. Scott. Quote
LukeAE71 Posted December 4, 2009 Author Report Posted December 4, 2009 Yeah I just found a neat 4k for it so I'm going to take it off the road over Christmas and whack it in along with the disc brake conversion. Seeing her sailing head first for the back of that Rav4 still gives me the creeps. I know that even the smallest prang will finish this thing off, parts too hard to find!!! Oh well at least it is insured well :D Quote
kE20ME Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 youll notice a huge different with some disc brakes on there luke... i feel alot safer when driving my now than with the drums. :P Quote
philbey Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 Man 4 wheel drums are the ducks nuts. Best 180 I ever pulled in my Galant, the ink was still wet on my license and I had to grab a heap of brake unexpectedly.... bam, round she went. Good times. Bought a disc upgrade the following weekend. Quote
36panvan Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 bloody hell thats scary to hear, good thing you had no contact because that would have been heartbreaking. good choice in upgrading to discs :P Quote
LukeAE71 Posted December 7, 2009 Author Report Posted December 7, 2009 So I woke up Sunday morning and logged onto Rollaclub to find a smorgasboard of rim choices for me all at the same time. So I bought these : I only bought 1 set in the 13 x 7. I think these are the same wheels as on Mr John's KE10 however they are in different countries so deal with it. I know I wanted to copy the look but didn't realise it would be right down to the wheels. These are a -1 offset so won't be as aggressive as the Superlights. Should be able to get away with just a roll of the guards now. Also, these are 114.3 so will need to change all round on car. Thanks to good exchange rate these came in at just over $1K with shipping included. I am waiting very nervously for them to arrive from the Phillippines ;) Also bought these, couldn't resist for the price and in 4 x 110 too. They are a full set of Streets : These might go on the brother in laws 20 or mine yet, will see how they look. 13 x 6 +8 will be good fitment either way, very 5-0 friendly fitment  Just spent $1300 today on rims, ouch :P Quote
nickyboy Posted December 7, 2009 Report Posted December 7, 2009 you know your going to have to let me try that set of enikies on my 20 :P ke11 will look killer with them on it Quote

You kent!!! :) Either no more daily or I need to upgrade to better tyres and disc brakes. Scared the crap out of me thats for sure ;) Hehe.......... I still have drums all round also. It adds a little bit of uncertainty to every drive. :( We almost wiped out 3 of these cars on Bay to Birdwood day when the 5 of us were following each other up to Birdwood. Front cars stopped as we headed into one of the towns on the way up and the back three of us were caught unaware. I was 2nd to last and pulled right and locked the brakes heading onto the wrong side of the road and missing the back of whoever was in front at the time. Then I look in the rear view to see Stefan also panicking, but luckily he was quick enough to pull left and do the same heading onto the verge. It was a close call. Would have been a shame to ruin 3 of these cars or perhaps 4 if we had all pushed further forward into the one in front again. Good times. :no2: Quote
RA28GT Posted December 8, 2009 Report Posted December 8, 2009 So I bought these : You bastard. Awesomeness 10/10. Quote
philbey Posted December 8, 2009 Report Posted December 8, 2009 (edited) Luke when you realise you've got too many wheels and need to fund other things, I'll be happy to discuss the fate of those hayashi's. I can't believe how fast you jumped on them.... Edited December 8, 2009 by philbey Quote
LukeAE71 Posted December 8, 2009 Author Report Posted December 8, 2009 Luke when you realise you've got too many wheels and need to fund other things, I'll be happy to discuss the fate of those hayashi's. I can't believe how fast you jumped on them.... Tom I had to jump on them in my mind they were just too cheap!!! They are meant for the brother's KE20 but if he doesn't want to pay for them and I don't want/need them you are first in line. I want to see them on a rad KE1x or KE2x :) Quote
philbey Posted December 8, 2009 Report Posted December 8, 2009 Done. I've got those Enkei's that I really need to clean up and polish as well, but these could be a nice interim job. Did terry manage to ship them down here for 100 bucks? Quote
