charl Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 Hi everyone! So i have finally got myself another corolla and this one is in just as much need of work as what my ke20 was! most of the work on this one is going to be rust repair... i spent the last 2 days cleaning up all the stuff i didnt like about it and am quite happy with the results so far. changed the seats back to stock ones that will eventually be re-upholstered. I also replaced the after market steering wheel with a stock one. removed about 20 metres of unnecessary wiring out of the car, remnants of an alarm system and a stereo system and some other stuff! had to clean up the extra gauges as well and the steering column surround had a bunch of holes drilled into it for them so i replaced that with a nice clean one as well. treated all the rust with rust convertor and fish oil for the moment and then cleaned the car and polished the chrome. fixed the passenger door latch and got a bunch of things that i was missing as well. I love going to u-pull-it!!! so what i need to do in the immediate future is track down a front bumper bar and make a start at getting the rust out. i am probably going to cut the rust out and just replace with fibreglass as i know how to work with that. maybe one day when i get to take the car off the road ill be able to replace all the fibreglass with metal!! :P anyway here are some pics of when i got it 3 days ago! note the crows nest of wire under the dash! big ugly mx5 seats! charl Posted October 8, 2009 Author Report Posted October 8, 2009 and here are some pics of my rust.... any helpful info would be appreciated, like where to buy fibre glass cheap or something! Quote
charl Posted October 8, 2009 Author Report Posted October 8, 2009 and here it is after the work ive put into it so far! Quote
charl Posted October 8, 2009 Author Report Posted October 8, 2009 I think it has had some work done mechanically as well, it has a webber and the sway bars don't look factory, the front has aftermarket springs and i think the rear leafs have been played with. apart from that i have no idea whats been done. the rust is weird because there is no rust in the boot or under the bonnet so i think it started to rust because of a dodgy prep job by whoever painted it... I think i would like to eventuall turn this into a te37 replica so if anyone gets any parts i might need feel free to drop me a line! ok so ill put some pics of the redone interior up tomorrow as ive run out of daylight! plenty more work to put into it but i like doing it so its no problem! JiP Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 Welcome to the world of owning a hardtop. Once all that rust is reapaired she should come out looking tops! Quote
Oh-KE Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 This is a cool car! Looks great. It's a pity about the rust. The paint looks good from the side :( but the roof and rust bits do not. :P What are the plans? Going to repaint it? And by te37 replica you mean you want the american style front end and rear lights ? Show us a pic of your inspiration! Cheers ps. If you are going to repair it I may be able to help you with rust cut sections. I have a rust free ke55 sedan you can come cut out of. Pm me if you're interested. Quote
charl Posted October 8, 2009 Author Report Posted October 8, 2009 So here are pics of what i think i would like to do. But i have not quite made my mind up completely yet... Quote

JiP Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 Hope it all went well mate. Great wedding car too ;) Quote
Taz_Rx Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 Wagon with fold down seats would have been better for a wedding car! Not much room on the back seat of a '35! ;) Quote
charl Posted October 12, 2009 Author Report Posted October 12, 2009 Best day of my life! We all had an awesome time and the rolla did its job well! ended up in some photos too. on a different note, anyone know if this guys products are any good? www.scottsoldautorubber.com.au Quote
LukeAE71 Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 I went and looked at this thing with my brother, nice little car once you tidy it up!! It has more rust in it than I thought. I must not have looked hard enough. It looks to have a good paint job so I think the guy just didn't prep it well enough or something  Good luck with it I thought it had lots of potential ;) Quote
blktoy35 Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 that car looks real good on photos can't see the rust!.... typical rust my coupe had in same areas but alot less! should look even better once cleaned up. congrats dude... Quote
charl Posted October 12, 2009 Author Report Posted October 12, 2009 thanks! it does have alot of rust, but i think it looks worse than what it is. but i guess ill find out in 2 weeks time when i start to cut it out! but that will be well documented here for all to see. Quote
67Rolla-Ken Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 Scott's Old Auto Rubber is the place to go for rubber kits for old cars. As far as I know, all the other places buy from them. Congrats on the wedding! Quote
