silverra23 Posted October 4, 2009 Report Posted October 4, 2009 Except that will mean it will become a project car that is off the road for months :) Quote
Crowie55 Posted October 5, 2009 Author Report Posted October 5, 2009 i got a 4k, but my mate might want it so not sure will ask him if you go the rebuilding route i got a spare crank/block you can have for free got new big end bearings and shit too you can have I'm in elanora near palm beach I'm very interested! if you could take some pics possibly that would be awsome, of both 4k and parts. cheers, Crowie Quote
philbey Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 You'll be hard pressed to get out of an engine rebuild for less than 1000 bucks. Unless you cut corners and dodgy crap like that. A running 4k should be easily available. Quote
seabiscuit Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 sad thing is the one i blew only had 115000km's on it. Doesn't mean anything ;) Depends how it's been treated. An engine could have 300,000km's on it and have an oil change, filters changed, fuel cleaner etc put through it every 5,000k's and still run like new. Compared to a 50,000km engine that's been raced with and revved to 8,000rpm daily with only a few oil/filter changed I'd pick the 300,000km engine :) As for finding an engine, people on RC wreck cars quite a bit so just send a PM to someone wrecking one and see if motor is available/working! Everyone on AE86DC puts a 4age/sr20/ca18 in their cars and throw away their old 3/4k's so could send someone a PM on that if you can't find one on here. Quote
Crowie55 Posted October 6, 2009 Author Report Posted October 6, 2009 depending where you live i have a good 4k you could have cheep to get ya going again if you near northern nsw? or as suggested good excuse to upgrade ya motor! :) where abouts are you? how many k;s does the engine have on it? running? pics if possible? cheers, Crowie Quote

kiahn Posted October 7, 2009 Report Posted October 7, 2009 (edited) You'll be hard pressed to get out of an engine rebuild for less than 1000 bucks. Unless you cut corners and dodgy crap like that. this isn't true, i completely rebuilt my 4age for a mere $800 and that included a full durapro gasket and seal set, gasket goo and piston rings. just look around several places and also look for parts that people bought by accident like my gasket set, if you want something really reliable then id push you towards rebuilding an engine as you will know exactly what condition your engine is in, and also the quality of the parts that are in it therefore letting you know how hard you can drive it *edit* i didnt cut corners or anything Edited October 7, 2009 by kiahn Quote
Crowie55 Posted October 11, 2009 Author Report Posted October 11, 2009 Update: Me and dad took the engine out yesterday... found a nice big hole in the block. Quote
67Rolla-Ken Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 Ouch. I'd say that things fit for spares only. Time to get another engine. Quote
philbey Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 (edited) kiahn, It sounds like you went to some effort to chase cheaper prices and so on? I did my whole engine myself bar the machining work, and that was 1300 bucks. I could have saved on things like balancing etc I suppose. I've heard of people rebuilding for ~800, and that's what I set out to do it for, but there were to many compromises to do it that cheap. Edited October 12, 2009 by philbey Quote
