I was doing some research myself the other day on cut and shut manifolds and noticed that when this is performed the pcv into the intake is blocked off as they run through the manifold and out into the throttle body.

 

This means that the engine will not be venting unless you have a vented catch can or have stupidly drill a hole through the pipe and into the manifold.

thats correct, ive heard that if your really good with drills and welding then drilling the hole is easy

 

But if you drill it through into the intake itself then when the throttle is closed the engine will be under vacuum.
