Evan G Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 we were at the servo 2day, my brother goes to start his car and it cranked over 10 times before it gardually go going, he didnt flood it i was watching his feet. no choke etc now i think its a fuel related problem. so thing along the lines of.... fuel going back down to the fuel pump instead of being held in the fuel bowl ? does anyone have any ideas on things i should start checking? towe001 Posted September 30, 2009 Report Posted September 30, 2009 How about the timing ? I can't really see it being in the way of fuel running back down to the pump, for the simple reason of that the fuel bowl gets filled from the top and not from the bottom. But yeah on the thing of fuel - if the 18r has a sight glass on the carby, you could always check it before starting the thing and also while its running and see what level the fuel is at in the bowl. If its low it could mean a new pump is needed or just a new filter (do the filter before the pump - its way cheaper). Urm, thats off the top of my head with ideas Quote
Evan G Posted October 1, 2009 Author Report Posted October 1, 2009 thanks for the input mate ill check the timing tonight Quote
ke30dude Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 On my vk commodore when you stopped it would dump the bowls contents into the inlet manifold flooding it, producing the symptoms you speak of. Also had the same problem with a ke26 Quote
Evan G Posted October 1, 2009 Author Report Posted October 1, 2009 the timing was a bit out. crank twice and starts (better than before) thanks for helping diagnosing the problem fellas cheers Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted October 1, 2009 Report Posted October 1, 2009 thought 2 cranks would be normal for a carby car? Ive had cars that start first crank, other take 5, even when warm. you sorta get used to it. My Golf is about 2 cranks, then other times it hates me and requires 6-7 cranks Quote
