speedway-rolla Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 Hi to all, I am putting an MR2 4age into my daughters AE71 Junior speedway sedan. This little race car has been run at Parramatta speedway for the last 6 years with its original 4ac and its a little tired. I was wondering if anyone knows who can fix the intake manifold to put the TB at the front or if anyone has an original AE86 or made up one for sale. I am in Sydney. This class of racing is for kids from 14-17 years. The cars can not be over 1.6L. The field is now over run by FWD cars like AE82's, Lasers & Honda's all with twin cams and EFI. One other thing is the car is an auto, will the MR2 motor bolt up to the auto without any problems? Thanks. Quote
kiahn Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 if you do some searching on AE86drivingclub and you will find out how to do the throttle body or someone who will do it for a price. and yes i do believe it should bolt straight up to the auto that is already in the car without any problems as all the A series blocks have same gearbox pattern Quote
speedway-rolla Posted September 28, 2009 Author Report Posted September 28, 2009 Thanks for that. I was told by someone at the speedway the the MR2's have a different bolt pattern on the end of the crank. Would anyone know if this is true? The other thing I wanted to change was the front struts so I can run 15" rims. I had a look at some ST121 (I think!) and they looked to have the same tube length and would bolt up to the ball joints? Cheers. Quote
flat out Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 st141 you may have ment, don't go with these as they have a different stub axle angle and will make it have positive camber, go for any thing corona or celica earlyer then that, pre 82 really Quote

Cheers. the 4age engines run 8 bolt flywheels, it just means you use the flywheel and clutch off the 4age engine in your install. Here is a reference off my site: http://s-86.com/s-flywheels.html and this for a 20v engine but many things would still be relevant to you http://s-86.com/s-20vrwd.html don't forget to put that spigot bearing in! Now why would you change the struts to run 15" wheels? Quote

I am only leaving it as an auto as its her first year racing and driving for that matter and not having to think about changing gears lets her watch her racing. I have also got an AE82 4age 5speed to build for next car or when she gets better. Cheers. Quote
Sam_Q Posted September 28, 2009 Report Posted September 28, 2009 getting an auto flex plate shouldnt be too much an issue, there are a few ae71 autos that appear at the self serve wreckers, well here anyway Quote
