SLO-030 Posted January 2, 2011 Author Report Posted January 2, 2011 That'd be sweet, I'll let Aidan know who has it now. Â I'll drop the KE30/55 extension housing round tomorrow. Â Â YAY  Quote
SLW42 Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 So the gearbox was finally in yesterday. As was the button clutch.  Damn clutch is gonna take some getting used to. Totally changes the behavior of the car.  mmmmmmm button clutch's nom nom nom nom nom  they make things easy to drive, 2grand take offs and cherping wheels is something i  Quote
bmxsexmonkey Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 too easy bloke. you can check out the rwd bigport i got for my skank 30 :) Quote
SLO-030 Posted January 2, 2011 Author Report Posted January 2, 2011 Yep, getting the hang of driving with the button  Quote
SLO-030 Posted January 4, 2011 Author Report Posted January 4, 2011 On the look for a KM2x/3x bellhousing so i can put a W40 or W50 behind the little 4K. Â Been a little hesitant to drive it hard, for fear of blowing this gearbox or the diff. Â T series is looking good as something that wont have to be cut down. R31 diff is something that might happen too if i go to the trouble of getting it shortened down. Quote
LXY-642 Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 Yeah a button clutch is hell on the rest of the driveline. Quote
SLW42 Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 did you look into old hilux diffs man there about the same length if not a little longer maybe 20mm longer Quote
SLO-030 Posted January 5, 2011 Author Report Posted January 5, 2011 Hilux didnt even cross my mind. Finding the right one (RN25/27?) is a pain in the ring. Â R31 diffs are a dime a dozen these days, factory discs etc etc. Â Hilux might be a tiny bit overkill for what the 4K will ever put out. Quote
Raven Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 $700ish to shorten an R31 diff, but it will add more weight to the rear and being as its a cone-style LSD, they tend to open wheel a fair bit when the wear out. Â T-series on the other hand would be a better option as all thats required to fit it up is having the spring mounts changed from coil to leaf and thats about it. Â Then you have the option of a 1/1.5 Way LSD or a 2-Way LSD if you feel like hitting the track and going for a slide and a heap of ratio's to choose from. Quote
SLO-030 Posted January 5, 2011 Author Report Posted January 5, 2011 All that would cost me with the R31 is the cost of shortening the axles. Â I have access to everything needed to shorten the housing, convert spring mounts etc. Â Jason put up a fair argument of why to look past the T series all together. Â It'd be a fight to the death with all the 86/ 4AGE guys for LSD centers that are getting on point of being 30yrs old. Â Then the cost of rebuilding the LSD etc. Â Companies are still making centers (LSD, full spool, lockrite etc) for the R31. Â Anyone know places that do full spools and billet axles for BW68 diffs :P Quote
Raven Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 (edited) You do realise I can get parts out of Japan yes? Â Not only that, Cusco, Tomei and KAAZ make brand new centres to suit a T-series, Â I could have a new centre landed at your door for under a grand. Â Picking up a T-series is $250 bucks at a guesstimate. Grab one out of a TE72. Â Then its just a matter of changing over the mounting points. Â Pretty cheap if you ask me ;) Edited January 5, 2011 by Raven Quote
SLO-030 Posted January 5, 2011 Author Report Posted January 5, 2011 Yes, i do :) Â But id prefer having something, that if a component breaks, that only requires a trip down the road to the wreckers. Â Not having to dig thru Japanese sites, buying it sight unseen, waiting for it to arrive then finding out its no the right thing or buggered :blinks: Quote
Raven Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 Brand new ;) Â Customer in town rebuilds the KAAZ/Cusco centres. Â Up to you, but I know I wouldnt want extra weight slowing me down ;) Quote
