It shouldn't be particularly hard, just the ongoing year on year set of unexpected problems that any project goes through trying to fit a large engine in a small car, resulting in a nose-heavy car with lots of torque!

I assume the V6 is old enough to have an iron block, so if I were you I would weigh the motor/gearbox and a 4AGE or Honda S2000, and see what the difference is. There is a big difference in handling between the Altezza with its 3SGE 4cyl and the Lexus IS200 with its 6cyl 1GFE.

Just depends what you want to do with the finished product.

As weve said before many a time. Just because you have a motor and box lying around, is no reason to chuck it in a ke70.

To me, the true joy of driving a ke70 is to smash corners, get grip, and go kart like steering.

I can't see a Commodoore motor achieving this. There are lighter, plentiful alloy v6 motors from Toyota these days. If you put in an MZ series v6, then it would weigh much less.

The supra 5 speed will fit in the car, but I think you should swap bellhousings and fit it up to a 1mz. :y:

A v6 is possibly the best configuration of motor to fit into a smaller chassis like ke70, but if the total mass is greatly increased on the front axle the ke70 won't like it much at all. A 4age is around 500-535mm long as are most Toyota inline 4 motors, from what Ive measured . What does the commodoore motor measure front to back?

One member here had himself a Corona with a Buick 3.8 motor for a while. Apparently it went quite well, he had plenty of fun in it from all accounts.

If you want to build a racer, its not a good idea.

If your'e thinking summernats and lots of smoke, go for it. By the way in most states it will just miss out on being a legal engine conversion. :no2:

I did it in my KE25, then supercharged it.

Clearance was pretty tight, but I was able to squeeze it in without even needing to do custom headers. Crossmember needed to be cut and redone around the oil pan though.

no it wont be registrable at all. ke30s came out with something like 1.2 or 1.3 litres.

that lump of metal you call a motor is a 3.8 litre pushrod low revving iron block 3 tonne weighing piece of junk.

unless you cut the firewall out and have the engine sitting next to you its a nice way to turn a cool car into a front heavy poor handling bogan crap box.

So i take it you have been in/driven a similar set up and have first hand experience. The 3.8 may not be

the best engine but it is cheap ,robust and makes decent power with minimal modification.

with appropriate suspension mods this can be made to work.

I had a ball in a 302windsor powered ke20 that ran 12s and was engineered in vic. and it handled

reasonably well considering. (especially power oversteer)

SR IS AN EASY, REGISTERABLE AND MODIFYABLE conversion

you can use a complete s13 front end as in crossmember suspension etc

only drama is wiring and gearbox mount , also have to cut shifter position back about 2-3 inches as the sr box sits further back in the car

then it's just a modified taishaft and exhaust

as for upgrades just a bigger turbo intercooler and injectors and a good tune = 300hp easy

3.8 unregisterable and only 200hp unless you want to do serious work to it and spend heaps more cash

or ca 18det ... as above^^^

sr 20 det ke70's go like a cut snake and provided you don't over rev it and keep it regularly serviced it will last a long long time and rip awesome skids
