cush Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 I'v got the horn bit off and the nut loosened, but i can't get the wheel off the spline. And advice on how to do it without a removal tool? Quote
Redwarf Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 Leave the nut on a couple of threads, and bang the wheel with your hands on alternate sides of the wheel like you're having a tantrum. Should loosen it enough to pop off. Always leave the nut on a coupe of threads, so if you're yanking towards you, you don't head slap yourself with the wheel. Quote
TE278U Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 unless dwarf beats me to it, use your hand and hit the wheel at 12, 3, 6, 9 o clock. or get the two sides and wiggle the hell out of it. LEAVE THE NUT ON. (about two turns off) otherwise you'll hit yourself with the wheel. Quote
surfer_paul26 Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 haha thats funny cuz i did mine months ago and wacked myself in head it really hurts lol Quote
drc_ke20 Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 i told a mate months ago to leave a couple of turns on the nut aswell but guess what......whack and lost two top front teeth!LoL!!! Quote
cush Posted September 13, 2009 Author Report Posted September 13, 2009 Yeah, i managed to get it off... I found a bold that fit (what i assume is) the removal tool holes and levered from under that to the centre bolt with a screwdriver.. One skinned knuckle is better than two missing teeth.. :no2: Now i just need to find a boss kit to suit and isotta wheel and i'm sorted. :y: Quote
philbey Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 I never hit myself in the head but when I was a wee tacker I belted the centre piece with a hammer and mashed the threads..... @ hours with a couple of needle files and the old man managed to clean them up enough to get it off. You can also just jam your knees up against the back of the wheel and a good swift hit with a rawhide mallet or a hammer and a lump of brass agains the centre shaft with nut still on will break it loose.
