Rich_Rolla Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 Just wondering how hard the conversion actually is? Do they bolt up to the CA20 gearbox? Trying to build a budjet drifter but don't know what direction to go in. Quote
Rich_Rolla Posted September 11, 2009 Author Report Posted September 11, 2009 Do you have a pinny? I can easily get one. Quote

I would have thought a Nissan forum would be the best place to ask how well a particular Nissan engine fits into a particular Nissan chassis and Nissan gearbox.... Quote
jason12 Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 Pretty sure they bolt straight in. Same family of motors so youd just have the wiring to do. To use the gearbox you just need a ca18 bellhousing on the ca20 box and it works fine. Check on r31 skyline club for more info, plenty of guys have done it Quote
350dream Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 very easy as far as conversions go. I put a ca18det into a s3 bluebird a few years ago and that bolted up to standard engine mounts and standard gear box and we put 1 into a mates pinny wagon. all it is step 1 unbolting the ca 20 step 2 bolting in the ca18 step 3 wiring (very easy 1 of the plugs had all the wires u needed from memory) step 4 plumbing every thing up (exhaust, heaters ,intercooler, thermo, fuel) step 5 wish u had of put it in a bluebird instead of a heavy pintara. philbey Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 (edited) Yeh a lot of the early nissan stuff is all swap over, I also had an S3 (originally CA20) with a CA18, everything was standard and swapped over. CA20 mounts have a dowel pin, CA18 don't have a hole, you'll need to slice them off - it might look like it's gone together but it wont. Well not properly anyway. As for item 5 above, if a pinny is anything like a bluebird as far as build quality, all I can say is..... ......Forget it. Set fire to the Pinny in a quiet public carpark somewhere and walk away a better man. Buy a Honda Insight, marry a good wholesome country girl and take up a life of solitude in the foothills. Buy your groceries at a local store where the proprietor knows you by first name and bring up 2.5 children as best you can. Never look back, life is good man.
