eberbs Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 (edited) I just replaced all the Vacuume lines on my 4AF today (like 20 feet of hose!) and now the car refuses to idle consistantly. It fluctuates between about 700-1100RMP. Otherwise the car runs fine, but the idle issue is really annoying. Could this be a vacuume leak? One other issue that may be related: when i turn on my cluster lights or heat the rpms drop to a point that the car is on the verge of stalling. no stalling yet. Any help would be awsome. Thanks. eberbs Posted September 12, 2009 Author Report Posted September 12, 2009 I have been reading up on the repair manual and it says: Engine lopes while idling or idles erraticlly, Vacuum leakage. So i have been fittling around trying to find what hose is leaking but its hard with over 20feet of vac hose under the hood. :jamie: Any ideas on how to find the leak Quote
Sam_Q Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 well I know how to find pressure related leaks but not vacuum. Might be worth visiting a carby place/good mechanic Quote
Jesseb369 Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 maybe you have to much hose? the pressure could be changing at one end of the hose and it will delay with all the extra hose... so the other end will read a different figure and throw off what the engine wants? Does that make sense? Quote

Does that make sense? Yes it does. I actually got rid of some of the plastic vac lines and replaced them with rubber ones. they shouldnt be any longer, but would using rubber insted of plastic make a difference Quote
eberbs Posted October 6, 2009 Author Report Posted October 6, 2009 ok so i cut out some of the vac line that was slack and it seems to idle alot better, but when i start the car when the engine is cold it idles at 600-700rpm (almost stall) unless i give it gas and then it will start to idle normaly and then the choke will open. i think there maybe a problem with the choke becuse sometimes (completly random) it will diesel after i shut the car off and i need to pop into 1st and stall it. (very annoying). The carb is old and needs to be replaced, but anyone got a temp soulution Quote
