I applaud you Falken_KE30. I had one of these and I loved it. Underated excitement machine. :lovin:

Personally I am with BlindKidSeeks. As far as a cool family car I reckon the Odyssey is a great choice. Loving the Mazda CX7's as well.

No way would you get me into a Commo or Falcon and as for putting something on LPG..... are you joking me? I would rather cut out my own eyes. :lolcry:

What if you could get a 3 year old Commo for around $6K. Don't be too narrowminded

Tell me what else you can get for around that money....err nothing!! I would rather spend sweet fa on a family car (provided it was safe and reliable) and have the other money for my fun cars. It's not like you can drive spirited with kids in the car anyway, or wives for that matter, at least not mine :hmm:

I agree with Manual when it is for family it is meant to be cheap and cheerful. The weekend toy is different, no way I would ever put my Corolla on LPG but the family wagon hell yes

Just a question,

How many of you actually think you will be able to afford the cars you want to have, plus having kids and paying bills with one wage? (because your Wife is off having and caring for the baby)

Not having a dig, just actually wondering if anyone thought about that part of it?

As for the LPG comment, some people need to get out into the automotive world a bit more. You can make VERY good power with gas if you do things properly. Duel fuel is a compromise and is always going to perform worse, but an engine setup to run gas only can make more power then the equivelant petrol engine. I'm throwing the ute on gas, will be slapping together a mild 308 with a custom ground cam, 10:1 compression and probably a gas reasearch carby or two, will still be nice and economical for cruising around and go well too.

Later model cars its a bit harder then that, but still easy enough with GI (gas injection)

Not being narrow minded.... I don't like Commodores or Falcons...... just my opinion........ simply not into them. If I had a $6k budget I would get something else. It may not be so new, but I would be happier.

In my answers I took this as a hypothetical question. Anyway I don't think an Odyssey or CX7 is out of the question.

I didn't mean to bag LPG either..... I just wouldn't do it personally. Have previously had 2 cars on gas and it drove me crazy.

Getting back to a vehicle to get the family and all their stuff around.... heck if I get in trouble I will just throw the kids, prams, bags and other assorted stuff in the back of the Stout. Problem solvered. :lolcry:

I'm in love with my E32. Such an amazing car to drive for its' age. Comfy and safe for the family, yet despite it's size amazingly agile and sporty when you get it alone. It's not super quick off the line, but certainly adequate once moving. The things geared for cruising at 200kays plus all day.

Definitely stands out from the crowd in a parking lot full of commodores/falcons and all the newer asian cars which all look the same after a while.

Fuel well it isn't that bad. Best I've gotten is 10.5km/L on a country trip, today got 8.5km/L with a spirited run up Mt Glorious/Nebo (paid by work). I can handle it for the comfort/grin factor.

I want some wider dishier rims for it later on. The alpina models had staggered rims with 17x10" on the back from the factory. Love the dish you can fit under the rear:

That was a big thing for me when i had the supra ... but basically - as mentioned above we own outright the aristo, the laser & the 808. I am paying a 300K mortgage on a single income whilst supporting my partner and 2yr old and we have our wedding in October that I am paying for as well. Looking forward to that coming and going so the funds i have put into the wedding can go into other ventures!!

it very tight on the budget when you take that all into consideration - all the bills / mortgage / 3 registrations / insurance / rates / food etc etc ... we don't have a great deal of money left over for socialising out and about but we make do ... i suppose you have to really :lolcry: wouldn't change it for the world though :lovin:

I thought about the affordability in my choice. Hell I hate Holden's and will probably have to shower everytime I get out of it to wash off the Holden germs but for the price I can get late model Commodores for I can't say no to it. And the cheap parts, etc etc. :lolcry:

f@$k yea! Somehow I think it would most likely be out of most peoples price range.

I want one with an M button.

I'm not having kids UNTIL its in my price range

Luckily, I don't want an M button, or iDrive, flappypaddle PDK selectocrunchie whizbang gearbox, or anythingf@$kingelse really.... Which is why I prefer the E39 over the E60. Cheaper too

4 litres of engine

6 forward gears AND a clutch pedal

4 doors

Thanks for coming.

Why can't life be as simple as all of 7Shades posts?!

If I was in the market for a family car, I would do away with most of the grand ideas in my head and just go with something that is the safest option for myself and family. Whether it be Holden, Ford, BMW etc, I'd be happy with something comfortable, safe and in my price range! Though, all this is IF, so until it ever happens, I guess I'm not 100% on any make of model

7shades, you crack me up dude. Just watch you don't spit a winner in the meantime.

I'd be happy with a manual and turbo conversion on my E32. Looking into Bilsteins atm.

The E34 based B10's with 12psi into an old SOHC 3.5L M30 made 360HP (440HP with a chip change). 0-100 in 5.2 secs. 13.2 sec quarter and 290+ km/h top speed. Quicker than the ferrari's of their time.

The later cars, although having awesome performance, just don't look as cool. Plus all the electronic driver aids remove the driver from the driving experience.
