rollake70 Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 yeh hey ive got a ke70 and I'm going to get a new engine too i think the 20v and the sr20 are the better 2 altho the sr20 is the most common the ca18 det is good off the mark but the sr20 n 20v are the better ive been doing heaps of research n I'm going with the sr20 its cheaper n easier Quote
Sam_Q Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 it all depends on how you like your engine to feel. Go for a drive in some S13's and 20V powered ae86's and see what suits. Drifting might suit an engine with a low down wide power spread though. The SR20 is probably the easiest to use but potentially not as fun if you like the challenge of keeping an engine on the boil. stx-16 Posted September 11, 2009 Author Report Posted September 11, 2009 yeah I'm going with the 20v now just need to find a cheap but good deal :jamie: Quote
machg Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 (edited) Devils Advocate: SR16VE or SR20VE: a couple of hot SR N/A engines. They run Variable Valve Timing (and Lift I think) and make big HP from the factory (the N1 spec 1.6 makes 147kW!) Highly doubt its ever been done before. Edited September 19, 2009 by machg Quote
RainWarriorDregs Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 20v 4a would be easier than a sr20 wchich runs better than a ca18, buuuuuuuuuuut thats my experience from silvias. from what i've been told, and i'm not expert like felix, but a 3236 on a stock 4k really isn't going to give you much more go than a decently cleaned stock Aisin (or whatever they are) carby. if you wanna get any go at all, a set of extractors and a new exhaust system wouldn't go astray. as for the cam, i just went to http://www.tighecams.com.au/COROLLA3K.htm and have a look at what benefits you want ie top end, low end etc etc. i thnk the tighe 104 is the most popular but once again, i'm new to all this. good luck bro Quote
machg Posted September 22, 2009 Report Posted September 22, 2009 are those models uncommon? Yes, I think the 2.0 Litre is more common than the 1.6. The 2.0 Litre came out in Nissan Primera G20 models and possibly Jap spec X-trails (with turbo?) The 1.6 is JDM Pulsar only. The top spec (N1) 1.6 is very rare. Quote
rolledup Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 go either 20v or sr man. Ca's are to prone to blow head gaskets and with the amount of thrashing thats gunna be done if its mainly used for drifting steer clear from the ca. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted October 15, 2009 Report Posted October 15, 2009 SR20VE... Do you think maybe the VVTi kicks in at 0:54 seconds!? Quote
MattyZ Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 SR20 for sure, and theres a company called C-RED Tuning that have alot of success with bolting turbos to the N/A SR20 with out any problems and gain a shit load of torque by doing so if you decide to go turbo later on down the track. might save a few pennys. this info might not help but could be useful to someone else Quote
Kebin[RL] Posted October 17, 2009 Report Posted October 17, 2009 SR20DE ftw! purely for ease and cost. cheap and are already a rwd layout. Quote

shy_77c Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 Hey mate if you want to spend a bit more cash on a motor go for the sr20 autech. Its a na model that has the same amount of power out factory as the s15 sr20DET. Very very responsive. Thats what ive got in my ke30 Quote
Axentrik Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 (edited) if you were going to that extent i think a BEAMS 3SGE would be the better option. and in response to CA being crap and blowing headgaskets..... nissan make bad final products not at all reliable (compared to toyota, pretty good compared to a holden or daewoo) but they can be easily revised and improved. not hard to put an aftermarket head gasket in now is it?
